North Korea will develop Guam strike plan by mid-August: KCNA

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea will develop a plan by mid-August to launch four intermediate range missiles at the U.S. territory of Guam before presenting it to leader Kim Jong Un who will make a decision on whether to proceed, the North's state media said on Thursday.

The unusually detailed report on the attack plan marked a further escalation in tensions between Pyongyang and Washington after U.S. President Donald Trump warned North Korea earlier this week it would face "fire and fury" if it threatened the United States.

North Korea's official news agency KCNA described Trump's threat as a "load of nonsense".

"Sound dialogue is not possible with such a guy bereft of reason and only absolute force can work on him," it said of Trump, adding that it will keep closely watching the speech and behavior of the United States.

The North Korean army is developing a plan "in order to interdict the enemy forces on major military bases on Guam and to signal a crucial warning to the United States," the KCNA report said. Guam is home to about 163,000 people and a U.S. military base that includes a submarine squadron, an airbase and a Coast Guard group.

"The Hwasong-12 rockets to be launched by the KPA (Korean People's Army) will cross the sky above Shimane, Hiroshima and Koichi Prefectures of Japan," the report said, citing General Kim Rak Gyom, commander of the Strategic Force of the KPA.

"They will fly 3,356.7 km (2,085.8 miles) for 1,065 seconds and hit the waters 30 to 40 km away from Guam."

I'm listening to Andrew Wilkow on-demand and he's playing clips of Bill Clinton talking about how NK is not a threat and that they were able to negotiate peace with them.

This completely makes my blood boil, and the frustrating thing is, NK is on a peninsula where our own ally is just an hour away (Seoul is only 40 miles away from the demilitarized zone) and our arch-rival is on the Northern border. So, all you folks talking about turning NK into a parking lot, it just isn't going to happen logistically, and a ground war is next to impossible due to the hilly terrain, the unpredictable weather, and the uncertainty with China.

I would say the best strategy is to cut off all trade and travel with China and isolate them. Bring back our jobs here and bring them down economically.

They are taunting Trump. Almost as if they’re inviting an attack. This is too bizarre for me to wrap my brain around. Is it a trap? Maybe they think they are calling his bluff, that Trump’s “fire and fury” comment was just empty bluster.

The US won’t attack first, of that I’m sure. What I don’t know is what it would take to prompt US military action.

I don’t think we should get into a public war of words with this fat little p**s*y. We should communicate privately, and let him know that if he doesn’t back down he will cease to exist, and may suffer substantially first. Bantering with him publicly just elevates this laughable clown to a level of international importance he doesn’t deserve or warrant.

Sounds like a preemptive strike on North Korea is in order.

I disagree. The US won't attack first to start a war. The Korean War is still active, just in a cease fire. It would only take Trump to declare that NK is in violation of the Cease Fire.

“North Korea will develop Guam strike plan by mid-August: KCNA”

They should incorporate the element of surprise to enhance their attack on the most strategic Guam targets

if NK launches any missile with a flight path that can pass of japan or any other land its on, we cannot make the assumption that they are not live warheads, the missile defense systems will have to be active.

Any missiles send towards Guam should be shot down by our anti-missile systems. It should not matter if they are declaring these “tests.” Same with anything launched over Japan, and looking on a map, it is difficult for them to launch anything that doesn’t go over Japan.

If they can just herd the people to one side of the island, it will tip over.
