Mattis: Military solution in place to address North Korea threat
The Washington Times ^ | August 10, 12017 | Carlos Munoz

U.S. military strategists at the Pentagon have a military solution in place to address the growing threat emanating from North Korea, but they are holding their fire in favor of ongoing diplomatic efforts by Washington and its allies, Defense Secretary James Mattis said Thursday.

The Pentagon chief remained largely mum on the details of that military solution, which theoretically would curb Pyongyang’s efforts to develop a nuclear-capable, ballistic missile arsenal, except to say any military option would be a multilateral one involving a number of regional powers in the Pacific.

“Do I have military options? Of course, I do. That’s my responsibility, to have those. And we work very closely with allies to ensure that this is not unilateral either … and of course there’s a military solution,” Mr. Mattis told reporters en route to meet with senior leaders in the technology sector in Seattle and California.

Yes, but like I said in another post, they (Trump) are not going to use nukes on NK unless he actually has a nuke in the missiles that he aims at Guam.

*************

Prolly true. But, half measures won’t do the job either. We need to open up a large can of whoop ass on NK. Nothing short of an overwhelming attack will make an impression on him.

This is no time to nibble around the edges. Other rogue states and enemies around the world are watching our reaction closely and they will reach the wrong conclusions if we don’t put the hammer down big time. We want to discourage them from making any miscalculations about our resolve. We have to carry a big stick and use it.

North Koreans should realize what Germans didn’t.

Bad and mad dictators need to be retired permanently.

Yes, Norklandia is completely isolated.

Neither China or Russia will risk a shot fired to save their ass.

Why not just break it and leave it to the Chinese, remaining under their sphere of influence?

If the Chinese choose peaceful reunification with SKorea, we don’t have a dog in that hunt.

Unfortunately, Obama failed to do his job.

Don't forget Clinton and Bush. Oh...and Jimmy Carter. He won a Nobel Peace Prize for helping the NORKS get a real program underway to develop their nukes during the Clinton administration.

Kim is going to test whether that is the case. When he launches his missiles at Guam, we should shoot them down.

Then launch a cruise missile barrage against his launch site and suspected nuke sites. Take out all his SAM capabilities while we're at it.

He's not going to behave unless there is pain for misbehavior. Just shooting down the missile is not pain. Plus it would give the Chinese desired intel on our actual anti-missile capabilities, which might be the actual point to this whole drama.

“We have to carry a big stick and use it.”

And wave it around at everybody while foaming at the mouth.

It would be good if the entire world thought we were both murderous and crazy.

Cut in Hong Kong for a solid Five Points scenario and see which sector embraces free market quickest and best.

Wow! How would I know. Thank you.

I am hoping those Nork subs are noisy and easily detected.

Find out Kim Jung un or whatever’s location.

Then TONIGHT:

Fire the 3 biggest nukes we have at that location and then no matter how deep his bunker is it won’t survive a 50 megaton H bomb.

Once He is taken out what’s left of the military will negotiate a surrender.

““Well, we could sink all his subs too.””

Seems to me that a number of “unfortunate accidents” to NK submarines should be under consideration today. When Un finds out that they’re gone, he may rethink his bellicose strategy.

If NK launches missiles in the area of Guam, the appropriate first action should be to turn the launch sites into charcoal. If they continue, turn it up a few notches.

Well I agree. We should be thinking about taking his entire program out with nukes because in a few years he’s going to have an h-bomb and you don’t want a psychopath who can destroy the entire human race. But if that’s the strategy then why wait until he targets Guam? Do it now.

How do you know if it’s armed?

I'll have "No Comment" on this one.

I think you’ve hit a nail there. My thoughts are Russia and China are in this for some intel. Hopefully our missile based AM capacity is essentially just cover for the incoming being either lased or hitting am EM derived shield.

Nobody fields a 50Mt bomb, and using one on a surface target would create a colossal mess.

This whole thing is so stupid. The Norks did not fail to notice that when the Iranians were threatening to nuke Israel, and we thought they were crazy enough to maybe do it, we sent them pallets loads of 100 dollar bills. What would any rational person do with that example except what NK
Is doing now, acting crazy and threatening likewise to get their reward. Trump is the only one who apparently understands this when he gives them crazy right back. In the meantime, Captain Obvious at the Pentagon issues a restrained memo reminding NK that they are overmatched militarily, and the left clamors for restraint and a diplomatic solution. In other words sending pallets of 100 dollar bills.
