This was decided in 1865, as I recall.

Sorry, TX and FL are a couple decades behind California but on exactly the same demographic trend. This won’t end well for the Republic, unfortunately.

I have thought about this some. I’d like to see them go before their debt obligations collapse them and they start looking for the feral gubment, meaning the rest of us, to bail them out.

Would have been helpfu if your excerpt had included the list:

1.) California as we know it will cease to exist.
2.) New California will suspend long-standing liberties.
3.) California will have to renegotiate deals they currently benefit from.
4.) California will quickly become a failed state.
5.) Republicans will control Washington forever.

5 Things That Will Happen When California Secedes from the U.S.

1) Pigs will fly.
2) Hell will freeze over.
3) Rosie O'Donnell will be named "Sexiest Woman Alive".
4) Tyrannosaurs will once again roam the earth.
5) George RR Martin will finish his "A Game of Thrones" books.

California will never seceded from the Union. This is a non-story.

I’m thinking of a #6 - such a place would immediately become a magnet for every forward-thinking progressive in the country and with sufficient border controls we could keep them from coming back. And Hollywood would already be on their side of the border. I’m liking this idea more and more.

Very simply, California will need to issue its own currency.

As Venezuela, Zimbabwe, Bolivia, and other nations have shown, you can’t run a big-spending, debt-producing welfare nanny state without having a reserve currency (i.e.. one that other nations and people want to hold)

In sum, Calexit kills progressivism and socialism in California. Ironic, eh?

The first item on the list is the one the secessionists fail to realize. Secession is political suicide for California. It would be the West Virginia scenario on steroids.

Draw a border of north and south right about at Vallejo all the way to Sacramento then to Truckee. Let the liberals keep SF and south of that.

The ability to leave the union would imply the ability to return or to further subdivide what’s left and then return.
I would expect San Diego for example to do so, after considering the ramifications of losing the US Military. Also the rural agricultural areas.

They’re not going to leave.

California has a huge budget hole they can’t pay.

They need Federal money.

All I know for certain is this.

If it would ever occur, it will not turn out nearly as well for them as they believe it will.

I have been pro-Calexit for a long time and vocal here about it.

5.) Republicans will control Washington forever. California is the only thing keeping the Democratic Party relevant on the national scale.

This is awesome.

I have a serious question that I’m too lazy to research:

When California was admitted to the Union, how much land was reserved as Federal land? And were the naval bases at San Diego and San Francisco Bay on Federal land, was the land purchased from the State of California, and who has title to it now?

OK, I lied, I looked it up.

AN ACT FOR THE ADMISSION OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA INTO THE UNION

Whereas the people of California have presented a constitution and asked admission into the Union, which constitution was submitted to Congress by the president of the United States, by message dated February thirteenth, eighteen hundred and fifty, and which, on due examination, is found to be republican in its form of government:

Section 1
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that the state of California shall be one, and is hereby declared to be one, of the United States of America, and admitted into the Union on an equal footing with the original states in all respects whatever.

Section 2
And be it further enacted, that, until the representatives in Congress shall be apportioned according to an actual enumeration of the inhabitants of the United States, the state of California shall be entitled to two representatives in Congress.

Section 3
And be it further enacted, that the said state of California is admitted into the Union upon the express condition that the people of said state, through their legislature or otherwise, shall never interfere with the primary disposal of the public lands within its limits, and shall pass no law and do no act whereby the title of the United States to, and right to dispose of, the same shall be impaired or questioned; and that they shall never lay any tax or assessment of any description whatsoever upon the public domain of the United States, and in no case shall nonresident proprietors, who are citizens of the United States, be taxed higher than residents; and that all the navigable waters within the said state shall be common highways, and forever free, as well to the inhabitants of said state as to the citizens of the United States, without any tax, impost, or duty therefore: provided, that nothing herein contained shall be construed as recognizing or rejecting the propositions tendered by the people of California as articles of compact in the ordinance adopted by the convention which formed the constitution of that state.

"California is the only thing keeping the Democratic Party relevant on the national scale. Republicans have won every run-off race in 2017 and just picked up another governor. The Democratic Party is in shambles.

"Were it not for California, Trump would have won the popular vote by almost 1.5 million. Most importantly, without the California Congressional caucus in Washington, the Republican edge in the House of Representatives almost doubles."

It's looking better and better.

"Whatever remains of old California will disregard classic liberal values in favor of modern day progressivism, which is a bizarre mixture of anarchy and fascism"
