On Monday, The American Bar Associations House of Delegates passed a resolution demanding that Congress let undocumented immigrants practice law. The bar suggests that lawmakers should add this block of text to 8 U.S.C. 5 § 1621(d):
"A state court vested with exclusive authority to regulate admission to the bar may, by rule, order, or other affirmative act, permit an undocumented alien seeking legal status to obtain a professional license to practice law in that jurisdiction".
This wouldnt require state courts to license undocumented lawyers, but it would make it clear that the federal government wont get in the way.
A few states allow undocumented people to become lawyers. California started allowing some people to practice law thanks to a bill passed in 2013. Florida officials made José Godinez-Samperio, who was born in Mexico, a lawyer in 2014. New York man Cesar Vargas, also from south of the border, was admitted to the state bar in 2016.

The Bar Association is a load of crap organization.
I once had a legitimate series of complaints against an attorney. I called and told them my issues, there were about 6 different things.
Then he said “Ok write a letter saying #2 and #3”, and so I did.
Then I got a reply saying “We’re sorry but #2 and #3 are not actionable items.”
Fargin bastiges...
Isn’t it a private union for lawyers? They need to go pound sand or bilk some elderly out of their life savings. The usual. Why is this self-serving union given any credence at all?
Time to resign from the ABA again.
Sin is lawlessness.
Let’s expand this and allow lawyers who are credentialed anywhere in the world work in the US. Just flood the market. Attorney costs will go way down - maybe to an average of $25-30/hour. Let’s see how many lawyers are liberal after this.
Nice tagline.
Is the American Bar Association just a private club for lawyers? Maybe this is just them trying to get more paying members.
Otherwise, I’m at a loss for words.
In a word no.
I hope everyone starts hiring an illegal immigrant lawyer for $20 an hour paying him cash under the table, and all the attorneys starve to death!
I have no documents attesting that I ever attended law school, let alone graduated or passed the Bar.
I’m a totally undocumented lawyer - can I practice Law? If Practice makes Perfect, I should do all right! Right?
When do I get my yacht & BMW?
I agree with the ABA. Let them practice law... In their home countries.
Why I dropped my ABA membership about 20 years ago and never looked back. Hard left ideologues.
