New Yorkers need only look to Brooklyn — where a plaque honoring Gen. Robert E. Lee has been affixed to a maple tree outside a church for more than 100 years.

Baltimore, NY ... any other northern states have monuments to confederates? If so ... why? I’m assuming the R.E. Lee statues are from his time at Westpoint and his U.S. military service?

The Emancipation Proclamation was announced in September 1862 and went into effect on January 1, 1863. It was essentially the halfway point of the world.
Maybe we should not allow any Civil War memorials until everyone understands the basic facts of the war.
