Golf is closed to poor people - black or white. Transportation to the golf course. Buying golf clubs. Green fees. So is polo.

Every park has a basketball hoop and a field for baseball and football.

You have a good point. And I will say I felt "privileged" when young to be able to learn to play, started in school, open to all. I don't feel I can afford it any more, am not physically fit enough to play now anyway, but our parks had a program for teens if you teed off before 10:00 on Mon and/or Tue you got on the course for 25 cents. Played every chance I got.

I got my last clubs at a pawn shop, loved them. I never had a complete set.

BTW, we walked, sometimes 18 holes in steaming heat. They probably don't allow it any more. And you forgot cart fees ;-(.

Like to illustrate my posts sometimes. A misty October morning in 2005. Look like white men to me. Can't really tell for sure. Hmmmmmmm.

Oh, and we rode our bikes, with our incomplete sets of clubs slung over one handlebar, over 2 miles and back, only got rides when playing with my dad or girlfriend's mom or some other adult.

My mom got me out of the house for hours that way. And I usually played with my Jewish gf across the street. At the park. And the country club was closed to Jews at that time. But when they opened it up to Jews, they joined. And took me as a guest. My parents would never join the country club because they felt we couldn't afford it.

But my favorite course was the one in my photograph. I live less than a mile from it now.

Right. And “poor” people can’t afford phones.

Golf isn’t expensive anymore.
