Bannon: 'The Trump Presidency That We Fought For, and Won, Is Over.'
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 08/18/2017 3:50:04 PM PDT by springwater13

“The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” Bannon said Friday, shortly after confirming his departure. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”

Bannon says that he once confidently believed in the prospect of success for that version of the Trump presidency he now says is over. Asked what the turning point was, he says, “It’s the Republican establishment. The Republican establishment has no interest in Trump’s success on this. They’re not populists, they’re not nationalists, they had no interest in his program. Zero. It was a half-hearted attempt at Obamacare reform, it was no interest really on the infrastructure, they’ll do a very standard Republican version of taxes.

“What Trump ran on – border wall, where is the funding for the border wall, one of his central tenets, where have they been? Have they rallied around the Perdue-Cotton immigration bill [legislation proposed by Republican Senators David Perdue and Tom Cotton that would revamp the system of legal immigration, favoring immigrants with education, skills and English proficiency. On what element of Trump’s program, besides tax cuts – which is going to be the standard marginal tax cut – where have they rallied to Trump’s cause? They haven’t.”

Does Trump support that agenda? Doesn’t seem like it.

He’s right, and with that the country is lost.

It's been lost.

Anyone ever see the movie Perfume?

Our gov’t reminds me of that movie... The Killer in the movie kept getting away because of the power in his creation that subdued all who came in contact with him.

Even the FATHER of a daughter who the killer just murdered. The Father could not resist his toxic power.

I feel Trump may be outnumbered to the same degree.

All that was known before the election. People got exactly what they voted for.

Where are people getting that Bannon is some conservative? He’s as left as Bernie Sanders. Waaaay more left than Trump.

He wants to increase taxes to 44%.

He wants a full blown trade war with China and Mexico that will hurt the economy and is the exact same position as Bernie Sanders.

He wants to use debt to borrow a $1 TRILLION for infrastructure without the public-private partnerships like Trump. That’s full on New Deal socialism.

He’s good on Foreign Policy and us staying out of BS wars.

He’s outstanding on immigration.

But his agenda is impossible in a congress with Republicans lukewarm or in open revolt against Trump and Democrats openly talking about impeaching him daily.

You’re telling me the Freedom Caucus would vote to raise taxes to 44%, start a trade war, and spend $1 Trillion on infrastructure?

The leakers blamed Bannon for the leaks and all the other leakers agreed.

Its clear the GOP does not support the President’s agenda and is actively working against him.

The Republicans have been absolutely worthless. We have a president who is bringing manufacturing back and working to rebuild our infrastructure, and they've done nothing to support him. Any accomplishments he has are his, and not the Republicans in Congress.

Whether they have the brains to see it or not, in the end they will only have made themselves look bad. Hopefully, that will be enough to replace at least some of them in the primaries.

No, he’s saying what we voted for to happen from WITHIN the WH is over. The fight for what we voted for will now be conducted EXTERNALLY.

The only thing I expected with Trump beating Hillary is that we would lose at a slower pace. Perhaps even plateau for a while. At least we still have breathing room. For example, Hillary is not positioning snipers in Charlottesville.

For Bannon to give an unauthorized interview to anyone is strictly verboten. There was no alternative but to let him go. That’s all that needs to be discussed in this matter. You give an unauthorized interview, you get fired, especially in this environment of constant leaks to the press.

Hey, you, Mr. Short Timer who joined in 2007, what has Bannon done for the U.S, except advocate for bigger and bigger government.

sounds more like he realizes the only way this agenda to be passed is get more people in congress who agree with it...Probably reason he can do more good on outside.. create maybe tv network and also grassroots network. The proved they can elect a populist, now it is time get more elected.

Lots of truth there. I think he’s saying that the hopes Bannon and Trump had for the GOP to actually become the party of the people and pass legislation for America have passed.

New strategies now.

Who here really disagrees with that? The entire current crop, with about 15 exceptions in BOTH houses, needs to be swept out.

But that presidency is over.

What a drama queen. Trump has only been in office seven months. Nothing is over until we say it's over. Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
