Don’t discount antisemitism among Catholic Spaniards. One poll says only 4% of Spanish disagree with their current immigration policy.
Recall that with the defeat of the Moors in 1492 the Spanish monarchy immediately expelled all of Spain’s Jews. The Moors were later kicked out, but not all at once.

Nothing strange about it. Spain belongs to Spanish people and they decide who gets to live there. Jews in Spain were allies of the Muslim invaders.
