I don’t see where the OP quoted from the media in the original post. NOAA and the NHX are usually pretty matter-of-fact when it comes to hurricanes. Sometimes they “miss”, but, that can go either way, and is the nature of forecasting the weather.
Shoot, one of my major complaints when we got clobbered by the big ice storm in 2009 was that while the forecast was fairly accurate, those putting out the warnings were not apoplectic enough, or at least not strong enough, in warning of what the effects of that much ice would be. For example, for some people, there was no power for 3 weeks, in early February, mind you. Almost no one prepared for anything like that...
