Report: Mueller, New York AG to work together on Manafort
CNN ^ | August 30, 2017 | Sophie Tatum

Posted on 08/31/2017 3:30:08 AM PDT by C19fan

Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller is teaming up with New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to investigate Paul Manafort and his financial transactions, several people familiar with the matter told Politico.

Since the US president is unable to pardon state crimes, the collaboration could also be seen as an effort to pressure Manafort to cooperate in the broader Russia investigation under Mueller, Politico reported.

As with all the previous NY AGs Schneiderman is a partisan hack. The fix has been in from Day 1.

I wonder if he was the model for the prosecutor in the series “Billions”? Portrayed by Paul Giamatti.

No one seems prepared to stop Mueller. He will be the death of the Administration and much more.

There is saying about prosecuting a ham sandwich. There are so many laws and regulations penetrating into almost everything a person does that if a prosecutor wants to take you down it is not a question of if but how they will do it.

The republican judge who coined that phrase was indicted when he went nuts

I am curious. If Mueller was commissioned for this role by the US Justice Department via the Deputy AG, why would he work with the AG of a state? If he has any need for the resources of an investigative or proprietorial aid why would't he work through the Justice Department?

Unless he is pursuing state level crimes, which would be a real travesty.

RummyChick :" Most here ridiculed me when I said NY ag would eventually be involved."

The New York AG is known for "pileing on", a typical political move ( generally reserved for football).

There are so many laws and regulations penetrating into almost everything a person does that if a prosecutor wants to take you down it is not a question of if but how they will do it.

From Atlas Shrugged:
“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.”

I don’t know the end game here.

I do know that Manafort could spill the beans on many high value targets.

Look at the Firtash case in US versus Spain. We are going for bribery. They are going for money laundering and organized crime.

Manafort could help build a bigger target on Firtash in the US. Of course, we still can’t get him here.

Renato Mariotti worked in the office trying to take down Firtash.

He has pointed that sometimes a WIN doesn’t mean a prosecution with a guilty verdict..especially in intelligence cases.

Then there is the very curious case of Felix Sater. Weissman knows all about Felix Sater...even what is in the docs that Judge Chen didn’t unseal.

Stater is my case in point as to why the nefarious IT spies could have been working as an asset. We let assets get away with a lot.

Sater is well familiar about laundering money..including how it is done through the penny stock shell game.

One year investigation in NY is nothing. Sometimes it takes quite a while. Ask Preet.

Oh and people aren’t done with Flynn and Manafort yet.

So just wait and see..might happen might not..

I would bet a big bet that someone will ask and get immunity.

Again, I’ll take the under on that any day of the week. If there was any smoke at all, it would have already been leaked, just like everything else (including a lot of not true stuff) has.

Involved with what?
What does this have to do with Russian collusion.
Trump voters see this for what it is.
A witch hunt. Nothing more

Read the 4th paragraph of this article. And even if they get a minor financial crime on manafort, doesn’t mean anyone close to Trump today, including Trump, is an issue.

I wouldn’t bet against you on that..

but I might bet against you if you included underlings that are being investigated right now.

Once again, financial crimes including money laundering and bribery are complex matters. Look at the team Mueller has hired and their background.

In this case, it requires investigation into real estate deals. Russians launder money in many ways.. INCLUDING REAL ESTATE, MORTGAGES, AND LAWSUITS.

If you can’t sit back and think about how Russian collusion could happen..insert Clintons name. Maybe it will dawn on you when you think about it under someone elses name.

They think Manafort has information that can be used against Trump that he refused to share. If they can get him on a crime, they have leverage to make him reveal everything he knows about Trump. If Trump is clean then Mueller is wasting time .

Is this not a clear cut case of REAL
collusion against the US Constitution
for Russia and the DNC?

I disagree about wasting his time because it isn’t just about Trump.

I really have never understood why it hasn’t dawned on people here that much could have happened without Trump knowing....whether through a conscious effort of plausible deniability or for other reasons.

Let’s say Trump never knew ...that doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

It’s hard to catch a mob boss but you can get their underlings. Sometimes, like Al Capone, you have to get them on something else.

I am not saying Trump is guilty. I am saying there is plenty of info to justify an investigation that could lead somewhere ..but not ultimately to Trump himself.
