For the first time in nearly four decades, a sitting US senator goes on trial Wednesday on federal bribery charges in a case that could have profound political impact.
Prosecutors have laid out a strong case against New Jersey Democrat Robert Menendez in their indictment. But in the two years since it was unveiled, the Supreme Court has made it much harder to win a conviction.
The senator is charged with taking nearly $1 million in personal gifts and campaign cash from a longtime friend, allegedly in return for political favors.

I just hope the trial reveals just how vile Menendez is and what those “vacations” he took with his sleazy pal were all about. Menendez should have been kicked out of the senate long ago. That he is still a senator is a black mark on the country.
Melendez made the FATAL MISTAKE of hitting Obama on Cuba policy...silly move - all he had to do was stay on script and Holder/Lynch would have certainly taken care of him.

If the Obama White House is going to use predatory investigations to ensure party discipline in Congress, the public interest is well served by ensuring the Democrat Party pays a heavy price.
This scalp must be collected, because this is the price the Democrat Party must pay for their grotesque abuse of power.

I’m sure it won’t be boring. The problem is that virtually no one will hear about the trial let alone hear/see/read exerps from it.
There will be a total news blackout of it in the MSM.
The media will of course be staging a circus outside the courthouse, and sticking a mike in Menendez and his lawyer’s face every time they go out to the bathroom./s

Even IF he is convicted, very little will happen if anything. When you are a member of “The Club” the law does not apply to you.

I believe Menendez was also against the Iran deal, which is what really pissed them off. I have from time to time admired his independence. If he goes down, then so should many others. I hope he pulls them in with him.

Though ABCNEWS GMA did not mention the trial, it was on their NEWS Ticker and included that Bob Menendez is a Democrat.
Menendez is a cheapskate.
If I am going to risk imprisonment, it will be for MUCH more than $1 million over seven years.
