The Justice Department says it will not prosecute former IRS executive Lois Lerner for targeting conservative groups during the 2010 and 2012 elections.
In a letter to top Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee, Assistant Attorney General Kevin Brady said that after a careful review of the case, DOJ will not pursue charges against Lerner, who oversaw the IRS division that reviewed tax exempt organizations.
After this process, the Department determined that reopening the investigation would not be appropriate based on the available evidence, Boyd wrote Texas Rep. Kevin Brady, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, and Illinois Rep. Peter Roskam, the chairman of the subcommittee on tax policy.
In April, Brady and Roskam asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to review the Lerner case and to consider whether she should be charged with a crime.
Lerner was accused of improperly targeting tea party affiliated groups by denying or stonewalling their applications for tax-exempt status.
Lerner, who has since retired from the IRS, pleaded the Fifth in two separate congressional hearings one in 2013 and another in 2014. In 2014, the Ways and Means Committee referred Lerner to the Obama Justice Department for prosecution. Republicans on the panel accused her of obstructing justice and misleading Congress. The Obama DOJ declined prosecution in 2015.
Brady and Roskam blasted the DOJs latest decision.
This is a terrible decision, Brady said in a statement. It sends the message that the same legal, ethical, and Constitutional standards we all live by do not apply to Washington political appointees who will now have the green light to target Americans for their political beliefs and mislead investigators without ever being held accountable for their lawlessness.

Did we hire Trump to be President or cop?
As I see it too many want him ‘to go after’ people rather than pay attention to the nations problems and get the things done we need getting done......and he’s doing a great job with everything he has to contend with..
Thank God those belly aching aren’t in office......it would look like keystone cops!
y gosh....Not even a year in and people are grabbing a noose!!

I’m sorry. Did we vote on extra-Constitutional powers for the Presidency and I missed it? There’s technically not much the Pres CAN do.
What he CAN be doing, being ‘the’ executive, *IS* go after the criminals, the illegals, the ....Not ‘cop’ but ‘chief’. In that, he’s failing, miserably so. What’s next? Holder? Hillary? Huma? Hell, are they even in the PIPELINE!?
He’s done SOME things well enough. NOT enough, IMO, but some. I’m not for dirtying my knees thinking he can do ‘no wrong’. Next you know, he’ll be dealing directly w/ the DEMs...Oh, wait...
Dems have big dirt file on Sessions. He has a history that he doesn’t want exposed.
Evidence?
If it was anything it seems like that would have been used to tank his nomination.
There are some things he wouldn’t want “out”. Dems wouldn’t use that against him because that’s one of “their groups”.
Agree. I had great expectations but have almost concluded that Jeff Sessions = Swamp creature.
Is Trump joining the swamp?
Is Rudy G. still available for A.G?
No we have Jeff Sessions as the cop. That’s his job to prosecute criminal activity. He’s not doing it.
Of course you can. Just fire the top guy and enough underlings until someone acceptable comes in vue. The temporary has as much authority as the real deal so why worry about it.
So are turd polishers.
Actually the President is the Top Cop, and you guys should know that.
I guess that is the signal they are sending to those of us who ARE paying attention. DOn’t bother paying attention. All the 0bama thugs are going to walk, Awan, DWS, Comey, all of them, HOlder, Lerner, Koskinen, yes, all of them.
And they say Trump isn’t a politician.
