One thing I don’t like about Twitter. Doesn’t let you finish anything but a sound bite.
That’s what makes Twitter what it is: brief comments.
Anything beyond that limit is asking the reader to take more time to contemplate a more thought-out statement, which is better handled on a forum more suited to the topic.
Twitter needs to consider themselves a “common carrier”.
The advantage of Twitter — which Trump has exploited brilliantly, is that it allows the sender to chose the sound bite.
Your comparison to sound bites is apt. The average sound bite on MSM newscasts is 6 to 8 seconds — no more (and often less) than the number of words contained in a Tweet. The difference is, there is no MSM ‘editor’ involved.
When Trump holds a news conference, or delivers a major speech at a rally; the media selects a few (largely out-of-context) sound bites to air. Then, their talking heads use the other 95% of the time available to tell you what you’re supposed to believe about those bites. That’s the best-case — all too often, the “quotes” are “edited” to say nearly the opposite of what they did in context.
Given the attention span of many in this country, short statements stick longer than well thought out articles spanning several pages, like those posted on this forum. IN the latter case, it is many preaching to the choir. Trump is reaching individuals conservative forums and news media rarely do.
