Point #1 has nothing to do with any deals with Democrats. Trump didn’t have to cut a deal with Pelosi and Schumer on an inconsequential three-month spending bill to make that point. Point #2 doesn’t address the point I made. If the GOP couldn’t even get 50 votes for an Obamacare repeal bill that they’d been promising for seven years, then what’s the point of eliminating the 60-vote cloture rule? You didn’t see any Democrats crossing the aisle to support the Obamacare repeal bill, did you?
No, but I don’t think this is really about Obamacare. The point is pretty simple: Trump wants wins.
And if DACA gets him banner headlines in the NY Times, he’ll take it. If Obamacare gets him banner headlines on Breitbart, he’ll take it.
