Marin County man arrested in fatal shooting of doe, fawn caught eating his yard plants

TIBURON — A resident of an exclusive San Francisco Bay neighborhood is the target of online outrage and may face criminal charges for shooting to death a doe and its fawn that were eating newly installed landscaping.

Tiburon police arrested Mark Dickinson, 54, shortly after 5 a.m. on Sept. 2. Officers were responding to a report of a suspicious person when they found two severely injured deer in the street near Dickinson's bay-view home. The animals died a short time later.

Officers arrested Dickinson after they determined he shot the deer several times with a high-powered pellet gun with scope, laser and flashlight attachment, according to chief Michael Cronin.

Cronin said Dickinson told officers he meant to scare away the deer, which were eating decorative plants. Dickinson was booked and released from jail Sept. 2.

Dickinson's lawyer Charles Dresow said the killing was an accident.

"My client did not intend to harm the animals," Dresow said in an email. "The public outrage related to these allegations is driven by the inflammatory claims of the Tiburon Police Department which haven't been proven in Court.

That image could be very deceiving for those who don't know. And the image has also been manipulated to make it appear even more appeasing/exotic. I can assure all, it's not.

That place is a leftist hell hole, it's regulated and taxed to the hilt and is crawling with very controlling people. Most who live there are wealthy leftist who nearly exclusively use low wage illegal servants. And the daily traffic these leftist morons have created is epic.

I call them rats with hooves. Plus, at least here in Central Texas, they’re pure kamikaze and will jump out in front of you with no warning.

got to say i agree that the guy broke the law and should be cited.

i am in favor of game laws. shooting game out of season and without a tag is a bad thing, not a good thing. if we want game around for the next generation we need to protect it.

the reason its illegal in this state to shoot a deer with a pellet gun is because its likely you just wound it, it runs off dies anyway and its “lost game”. that is also a good law in my view.
that said, i hunt with a pellet gun, but just rabbits to eat. definitely not a toy gun, the muzzle velocity is higher than a .22 and so is the muzzle energy. very accurate out to around 35 yards in my experience.

Marin County, 2016

HILLARY CLINTON DEM 108707 77.27%
DONALD TRUMP REP/AI 21771 15.48%

I seriously doubt this guy is in the 15%. Hope he enjoys the slammer, it’s HIS PEOPLE that wrote the laws that will put him away.

intersting comparison of pellet and .22 long rifle here:

.22LR http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.rimfire-rifles.html

pellet: roughly 900 to 1,000FPS muzzle velocity, higher than some .22, lower than others.

same for muzzle energy, roughly 170 foot pounds for pellet, big range of .22 from 40 to 180.

#5: "Truth is, they’re nothing but oversized rats."

Amen. I've seen too many wrecked cars, and too many near misses, too many deaths. The only good deer is a dead deer.

".....living area features phalanxes of completely non-Bambi deer....."

The proper term for such beasts is "bambi rats".

I live in a rural area which has turned into a "bedroom community" for Tacoma. These city idiots think deer are "cute". The deer population is mostly reduced by being hit by cars (my wife hit a bambi-size with ~3K damage to car...fortunately paid by insurance).

Oh yes. He broke the law and should be cited by Fish and Wildlife. I don’t think this is an issue for Humane Society or the city law enforcement.

I got in trouble for throwing a rock at some guys throwing rocks at some ducks. The guys were teenage college butt wipes. They wanted to fight, when campus police showed up. They wanted to charge me, which was fine, I was wrong. I asked the cop to call the game warden. He asked why? I told him, in front of my accusers, that they would be cited for hunting with no license, no state or federal duck stamp, out of season, illegal method, hunting in a no hunting zone, hunting after hours, and that was likely just a beginning, that they could be looking at federal charges as ducks are migratory water fowl. They declined to press charges.

Where I live in E TN, they’re more common than rabbits. I see them several times a week. They’re totally brazen and confident that nothing will happen to them and they’re right.

I recall Louie CK doing a bit on a deer that destroyed his car mirror. Wish I could post it ... funny stuff but, of course, NSFW.
