I wasn't aware that federal taxes vary by state. Bill Maher must know something I don't. I thought federal taxes that fund the Coast Guard were at the same rate in Texas as they are here in MA.
I would also add that vast, vast amounts of the help going to the flood zones is coming from private sources, private money and private citizens giving of their time and resources.

Considering that the major population is Hispanic and black, I would think that the tax base would be low.
Probably a lot of the Hispanics are illegals who are paying no taxes.
