Local weather men and women were stressing out over the number of tornado warnings in Central Florida.

Brevard County update: We seem to be one of the few still with electricity. However Spectrum cable just quit. Lot of wind, lot of rain, lot of tornado warnings.

Tracking well east of forecast track, good news for Tampa/St. Pete, not so good for Orlando.

Look if ya feel a cell phone or tablet is better or will give you better and more reliable communication in a pending disaster, than a portable, all band general coverage receiver, have at it, no problem!

Yep - Zello was a success this year because, for the most part the power and cellular network remained active. It's an added layer of communications that emergency responders need to be aware of and know how to utilize, but there's a reason why the National Interagency Fire Center / National Interagency Coordination Center maintains the largest civilian radio cache on the planet.

To: NautiNurse; All

See below for NautiNurse’s posts about conditions at her present location. In the last 24-48 hrs, she has been through a bucket-load and is no doubt weary.

With Irma, she is directly affected.

All who benefit from her hurricane threads...and lurkers too...take a moment to hold her up in prayer...NautiNurse, her property, and all her loved ones who are impacted by Irma.

NautiNurse, we appreciate you and are praying for you and yours. Please keep us informed about how Irma is affecting you til you are out of harms way.

“Directly in Irma’s path. Big squall band coming through now. Hoping the electricity holds up.”

That is a very nasty band ahead of the center, and it's going to be coming onshore all up the coast, probably into the GA coast as well.

Multi-band receivers are nice to have but they are more of a 1970s thing.

Like electricity, it goes way back further than that and goes on as I type.

Most folks capable of critical thought would fork over the $150 for the most reliable connection/communication to the outside world possible.**Especially those who live in earthquake/hurricane zones**.

Btw, everyone has a smart phone...I have one and probably 3 others thrown in a drawer somewhere. But I can assure you, I do not look at those devices as reliable communication in a pending disaster.

Most of them would probably have marine radios they could use to coordinate as well.

I’m about 15 miles N of Tampa. Lost power about 8:30. Somewhat loud wind and rain but nothing very concerning yet. Hoping it stays that way for the next 6-8 hours.
