George Clooney compares hurricane victims to Syrian refugees

'People in Houston are now refugees based on something that had nothing to do with them,' Clooney tells TIFF

Houston is Syria quite honestly."

And just like that, George Clooney steered his Suburbicon press conference into serious territory Sunday afternoon at TIFF, comparing the Syrian refugee crisis to the hurricane devastation in the southern U.S.

"People in Houston are now refugees based on something that had nothing to do with them. They didn't do anything. They are now victims and they're out of their homes and they are going to be suffering for a long period of time," he told reporters.

"Much like the people and children in Syria, we are going to have to find ways to be involved. That is our job as citizens of the world."

As the festival rolls into its fourth day, both monster Hurricane Irma and the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey were top of mind, with some of the fest's celebrations dialled back.

A few TIFF parties thrown by Miami's film and tourism industry were scrapped out of "concern" for the people of Florida while other Florida-based actors missed the fest.

Clooney?

Quick, check the status of the Smug Supercell over San Francisco and make sure there’s not a converging Smug system!

Clooney must have stayed in a Holiday Inn last night, because all I've ever seen is he play in movies where someone else puts words in his mouth . And my take of him he can go back to Italy anytime he wants ,

His career is clearly in decline, not that this jacko was anything impressive when he peaked in 2006. Typical liberal, he’s always calling for SOMEBODY ELSE to do something. How many hundred mil in the bank and he can’t bring himself to send them so much as a coke and a candy bar. I’m sure he’ll contribute 20 grand later, which is about 0.0005% of his annual income, he’s a hell of a guy.

Hurricane victims are like Syrian refugees to George Clooney - they are not going to his house.

Oh George, you mean the hurricane victims who will be returning to their million-dollar homes in a couple of days? Yeah. Exactly like refuges who only have the clothes on their backs.

Where's Sean Penn when we need him? He was such a hero during Katrina. Here he is bailing out his rescue boat with the cup that he was drinking a screwdriver with just minutes before. Such an intellectual.

"People in Houston are now refugees based on something that had nothing to do with them. They didn't do anything. They are now victims and they're out of their homes and they are going to be suffering for a long period of time," he told reporters.

Right, so they should automatically get the right to move to Mecca and Medina regardless of what the inhabitants there think, build churches, get welfare benefits, and complain loudly that everyone there needs to keep quiet when some of them blow things up and stab people.

Want to make dumb analogies, Mr. Clooney? Carry them out to their logical conclusions.
