Singer Stevie Wonder kicked off Tuesday’s star studded Hand In Hand telethon to raise money for hurricane recovery by getting political. Wonder started the show by saying, “Anyone who believes that there’s no such thing as global warming must be blind or unintelligent.”

The Hand In Hand telethon was run on every broadcast network to benefit victims of hurricanes Harvey, which devastated the Houston area, and Irma, which slammed Florida over the weekend. The event mirrors past telethons for natural disasters.

The 2005 telethon to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina became known for Kanye West’s infamous anti-President George W. Bush comments. “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” West said as a stunned Mike Meyers looked on.

Well crap. Now I guess I gotta believe since it's so easy a blind guy can see it. You know, the guy that didn't know he was black and oppressed until somebody told him he was. He also rails against gun violence too from time to time. If one is inclined to give anything, do so at your will. If and when we contribute, it's to the Salvation Army. Certainly not a bunch of pampered liberal ecowanker assclowns. Contrary to mr. wonder's words, most of think that anyone who buys into "agw" is a fool.

LOTS of PC CRAP. RUINED what could have been a coming together as a nation builder. Should have left the PC crap out of it.

The only good segment was when they did the ‘remember how we all pulled together after 9/11. The TX 1 was C & W and that never crossed over into political.

I honestly don’t understand how some of these people are supposed to be singers they were not very good. In some cases the back ups did a better job.

Now how much are they going to scrim off the top for some major CEO? NO one said where the money was going and that is a big RED FLAG.

I had a tie that was pretty ugly (a gift).

When I would wear it, someone would always comment on its ugliness. I would respond that a guy offered me $5000 just to see the tie.

They’d ask, “Oh yeah, who?”

Answer: “Stevie Wonder.”

Hard to believe that ones like Gary Cooper, Dinah Shore, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Walter Pidgeon, Betty Grable, Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne, Ginger Rogers, Bette Davis, and other Hollywood royalty back then were Republican and conservative. Sure, there were liberal Democrats like Lauren Bacall, Gregory Peck, Danny Kaye, etc, but that time seems even more distant now with the way the Hollyweird is these days.

There are days that I’m really, REALLY glad we don’t have TV at our place.

I heard there was a hurricane in Texas or Florida or somewhere down there where they have hurricanes all the time. How’d it go?

I give through my church because I’m confident their teams make proper use of the money, such as collecting and transport of cleaning supplies to the affected areas. All the major faiths have their own national disaster organizations - Catholic Charities, United Methodist Church has UMCOR Committee on Relief, the Presbyterians have a committee for national relief efforts, the Pentecostals have several good organizations, etc. And you can designate Flood Relief or As Needed.

And his music SUCKS!

Always has, from his debut on American Bandstand back in '62 (yes, I watched) to today he is one of the most over-rated performers ever.

At the end of it, they announced they’d collected $14 million. All of those entertainment millionaires should’ve given money on their own, instead of telling those who are struggling to donate. That would’ve been more than $14 million.

LOL! Wet and wild from what we hear. But, in FL and TX, folks gettin’ busy cleaning up and for the most part only waiting for the power company to get the electric back on. Just like we used to do when we lived in FL for 24 years. Only clean up I need to do now is removing sage brush from the yard. ;-)

I wonder how much of the $14 million will reach those in need? Taking out administrative costs and those who fail to pay, how much makes to the destination?

Probably shockingly little. A lot of these things have huge expenses, both for venue, security, etc, and the artists themselves. Expenses.

Hopefully it’s not true of this one, but swollen expenses for such things aren’t unusual.

Let me get this straight:

Katrina: Global Warming

Harvey: Global Warming

Decade of no major hurricanes in between: Climate Change
