President Donald Trump’s economic adviser Gary Cohn appears keen on working with the world about climate change, setting up a meeting next week at the United Nations to discuss the issue. The breakfast will include climate and energy ministers from around the world, according to a New York Times report. The Times cited an invitation describing the event as “an opportunity for key ministers with responsibility for these issues to engage in an informal exchange of views and discuss how we can move forward most productively.”
Cohn was notably an advocate for the Trump administration staying in the Paris Climate Agreement, describing the president in May as “evolving” on the issue.
“His views are evolving, which is exactly what they should be,” Cohn told reporters during a press briefing in Sicily at the G7 summit.
Despite Cohn’s advice, Trump announced his decision to withdraw from the Paris agreement.
“I was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris,” Trump said during a speech at the White House explaining his decision

When will people realize that Trump does this kind of stuff all the time and then undercuts our enemies at the last minute? He’s done this time and again and yet the hysterics on FR take the bait each and every time.
In the past (before we had a President with balls) every time we sent a representative to a meeting we would end up taking it in the shorts. That's not going to happen.
It used to be when we attended a meeting it was to tell us what we had to do, how much we had to give and what they would do if we didn't comply...Not anymore.
For the most part Trump has fired the wrong people. He said he would drain the swamp, instead the swamp is consuming him. Look at the corrupt head of the IRS, McCabe at FBI, Mueller, Sessions, Obama holdovers, Tillerson, Mnuchin, Jared, Ivanka, Ryan< MConnell, etc. Trump is shoveling $%^t against the tide.

I am convinced—the only thing on Trump’s agenda that his handlers will permit him from here on out is the corporate tax cut. We won’t see any more Gorsuch’s on the SC. He will probably claim credit for a patch to Obamacare being in some form a “repeal and replace” also.
But the MAGA agenda otherwise is dead.

Every time Trump makes a move, most people on FR react just as you described. But none of these things are done without a reason, and this one is transparently simple. Like it or not, a lot of (allegedly) smart people who are highly influential in big corporations and global governments believe climate change is the result of human actions. Trump could choose to spit in their face and call them idiots (as most FReepers would have him do) which would put all of his international agenda in jeopardy and unbalance the growing economy which he badly needs to continue on course. So you send out a stooge who has high credibilty to put on the dog-and-pony show, meanwhile Trump and his team are continuing to MAGA and nothing alters his climate change positions.
It's sure starting to look like it. This seems to have Javanka's fingerprints all over it. No way Cohen is doing this meeting without the full knowledge and approval of Trump.
And it's certainly better to know what's going on than not. In fact, I'd call it common sense.

You said it so much better than I could have. You are exactly right but most of our freeper friends who get het up were always wobbly Trumpers. They look for every reason to shout: “See! I told you so. That’s why we wanted Ted Cruz!”
Also, negotiating with (”climate change”) witch doctors just gets you speared!
Why? Negotiating with leftists just gets you a dose of leftism. There’s no point to it.

He also made it clear that any new deal had to be a good deal for Americans.
