Steering failure? Is that going to be the excuse? I guess the sailors on deck never considered the possibility of reversing propeller rotation to slow and, eventually stop, the ship — hopefully before a collision.

Or, since the class of destroyer happens to be twin-screw, maybe stopping one prop while running the other at max revs to turn the ship?

Then again, the Navy has already admitted that both destroyer crews were actually completely unqualified to be running their ships and were lacking even basic navigation certifications.

Translation: They let the diversity members run the ship with no experience or training.
