Report: North Korea fires missile

North Korea launched another missile Friday, the rogue nation's first missile launch since its massive nuclear test more than a week ago, prompting U.S. officials to issue a sharp round of condemnation.

The missile was launched eastward early Friday from Sunan, the site of Pyongyang's international airport. It flew over northern Japan before landing in the Pacific Ocean, according to U.S. Pacific Command.

President Donald Trump, who last month vowed "fire and fury" if North Korea ramped up its nuclear threats, didn't immediately comment. However, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis called the missile a reckless act by the North Koreans, adding that the missile "was fired over Japan and put millions of Japanese in duck and cover." Mattis said President Trump has been fully briefed on the missile.

Trump has not responded yet.

Recovering after hurricanes Harvey and Irma is the immediate national problem. These were the third and fourth costliest hurricanes to hit the U.S. respectively at well over $100 billion in damages, and they were back to back. The Southeast U.S. has just finished a two week long, post-apocalyptic, disaster movie. Now the sequel, Hurricane Jose is forming in the Atlantic.

As infuriating as Kim Jong-Un is, realistically, as a national priority he can wait.

I agree with that. There is a very good reason the US chose to assume the defense of Germany and Japan after WWII; namely, never to give those two countries reason to re-arm and possibly start another world war. Have they learned in the ensuing 75 years to never to pose such a threat again? It would seem so. But our ancestors never wanted them to have the chance and we’ve got to respect that. Now we have to step up and stop these NK flights over Japan. This is what we signed up for.

Perhaps Trump can work out a deal: The Norks get to nuke Seattle in exchange for nothing.

Did we know for sure it was not headed for a US Military base in Japan or towards Guam? Did we know the missile might have a nuclear warhead or chemical warhead?

If Trump meant what he said, he would have attacked the missile launcher before it launched.

There is a thread on FreeRepublic that stated North Korea was preparing for a launch.

This thread (on FreeRepublic) was posted on the 13th:

FreeRepublic Thread: North Korea observed moving mobile missiles (good weather today)

From President Donald Trump's words, one would expect the missile to be destroyed BEFORE it is launched.

You’re not differentiating political rhetoric from practical military outcomes. And I’m confused as to why you’re conflating the two.

Good night, FRiend. I’m done for today.

In the 1980's, the US had problems with terrorism. The Lockerbie Pan Am was one incident. The other was the bombing of a nightclub in Berlin filled with US Servicemen.

President Ronald Reagan opened some diplomatic channels.

The Soviet Union pulled its warships from Tripoli, Libya (which made the news). The United States then bombed Libya.

After that, there were no terrorist attacks. Apparently, those behind the attacks were licking their wounds after the bombing.

We did lose one F111 Air Force bomber.

During the attack, Khadify ordered his North Korean pilots jets to attack the US warplanes. They said No.

The US Navy carrier based jets were also part of the attack.

Before that, it appeared a Libyan military jet was getting too close to our carrier and Navy jets. It was shot down.

There was also a video of how a Harpoon missile took out a Libyan patrol boat. That was shown on our evening news broadcast. I remember seeing it on ABCNews.

Basically, the missile hugged the water before shooting upwards just before getting to the patrol boat.

That way it could blow the bottom out of the boat, and sink it.

Nobody cried for the Libyans at that time.

And the terror attacks stopped. You did not mess with Ronald Reagan.

Note: at the time we bombed Libya, the jets Khadify had were manned by North Korean pilots.

Apparently, the North Koreans took their orders from the Soviet Union, Khadify.

Over Japan makes perfectly good sense. Japan can’t do squat without approval. NK/China’s strategy is mental conditioning. Tough to ignore, but that is what must be done because past administrations let NK get past the point of no return.

Fatboy is going to keep doing this until someone punches him in the face - hard!

The UN is proving how useless it is and Haley should tell them that unless they stand up to Fatboy they're out of the U.S. and the U.S. is out of the UN. C'mon, Trump, do something!

Is our missile defense shield a myth? If not, why aren’t they shooting these down as they approach a sovereign country’s territory? It almost looks like they want several thousand people killed so they can start a war and finish off Korea. The situation is looking like Pearl Harbor in ‘41. The proof of intended attack is clear, but “purposely” ignored?

The U.S. responds with “condemnation”!!! Wow, that really has the dictators in North Korea worried.

These missiles are about 1000 kilometers up (from previous articles/threads). Tough to shoot down.

That is more than 3,000,000 feet up. That is about 575 miles up.

I may be EATING CROW on this and I hope I do.

There is now talk of military action action North Korea...

What you said may be true: Trump is taking his time in response -- which is the wise thing to do...

Someone like Hillary would enjoy the opportunity to strike and wreak havoc with little regard of the consequences. Recall her pleasure in the assassination of the otherwise cooperating Qaddafi.

Despite the inordinate swamp pressure, I believe Trump will continue to be thoughtful, pragmatic, and ultimately effective.
