Chief of Staff Kelly Set Up President Trump for Amnesty Fiasco
Breitbart ^ | September 15, 2017 | Neil Munro

Posted on 09/16/2017 1:31:39 PM PDT by Pinkbell

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly ensured that President Donald Trump was literally surrounded by amnesty boosters the night he agreed to give away a huge, expensive and unpopular amnesty in exchange for an empty bag of “border security” promises.

The September 13 amnesty deal has proved so half-baked and disastrous that Kelly and other top officials have promised to develop a new immigration reform plan within ten days which matches Trump’s 2016 campaign proposals.

The Kelly set-up was exposed by the seating chart, which seated Trump between the two Democratic leaders, Sen. Chuck Schumer and  Rep. Nancy Pelosi. According to the Washington Post:

Act One was the dinner itself, a meal of honey sesame crispy beef, sticky rice and chocolate cream pie for dessert, with Schumer and Pelosi flanking Trump on both sides.

Another person in the room was Trump’s congressional relations chief, Marc Short, who is a former president of a Koch brothers’ pro-immigration group.  On September 12, he suggested the president should trade his campaign promise of a border wall in exchange for tax-breaks sought by CEOs. On a Friday MSNBC show, Short admitted the September 13 seating was deliberate when he answered a question from MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson about Pelosi being ignored by other politicians at the meeting, saying:

I was there, Hallie … The conversation was one that was very friendly and very jovial, and I don’t recall any conversation about women being left out of the conversation. In fact, we seated Nancy Pelosi right next to the president so her opinions could be heard.

Trump was partly supported in the meeting by Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who asked, “What exactly does the president get out of this deal?” But Ross is also an advocate for using immigration to help companies cut salaries for white-collar professionals.

What I wrote in another thread:

Cernovich, Posobiec, and Roger Stone have all said Trump is being isolated. This is corroborated by MSM reports.

Apparently, Kelly has removed Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc. from Trump’s news packet and has restricted Trump’s Oval Office meetings to appointment only. John Bolton was forced to make a public appeal in a news article because he said he isn’t allowed to visit anymore now that Kelly is COS. Roger Stone said Keith Schiller, a conservative who was Trump’s longtime bodyguard and friend, was forced out because he was denied his usual access by Kelly, who required him to schedule an appointment and file a report if he wanted to see Trump. When he voiced objection, Kelly threatened to resign if Schiller was given the access he had before Kelly arrived. Schiller said he would go. Stone is the only one who has reported this, but he does know Trump and have sources from inside the White House. He’s quite critical of Kelly. Reports out also have said that Omarosa (a supporter and liaison between Trump and the black community who has taken a lot of heat too). This very Breitbart article says Stephen Miller has been sidelined (he's the person the liberals want fired now that Bannon and Gorka are gone).

All (but 5 per Gorka) of the pro-Trump people have been forced out. McMaster purged the NSC of the Trump supporters. The pro-Trump people who applied through Greatagain.gov apparently didn’t get jobs - Jane Ruby speaks all about this.

An article that just came out that I intend to post separately is about Kelly blocking info getting to Trump about a deal Rohrabacher worked out with Assange to pardon him in exchange for proof that the Russians didn't hack the DNC/Podesta.

Therefore, if Trump is surrounded by mostly RINOs/liberals, isn’t getting conservative news, sees himself getting constantly attacked in the MSM, and sees some positive coverage from the press from working with Democrats, it may influence his thinking on DACA. Gorka predicts Trump will realize he doesn’t have enough pro-Trump people by Christmas and will do a staff change. I hope so as Jack Posobiec said about 80% of the staff at the White House are Bush people. Clear out the establishment and put in pro-Trump people.

I’m not attacking Trump. I don’t think he set out this way. Bannon said their mistake was working with the establishment - called it their “original sin”. The swamp wormed it’s way in.

Here is the part about Miller:

Kelly has also reportedly sidelined Steve Miller, who was Trump’s main advisor on immigration issues during the campaign. Miller knows the politics, polling, and economics of the issue, having worked as Senator Jeff Sessions’ right-hand man during the successful campaign to stop the 2013 cheap-labor-and-amnesty “Gang of Eight” bill. Trump aide Kellyanne Conway knows the polling even better, having been the first pollster to recognize the public’s simultaneous respect for migrants and their growing worry about immigration’s impact on wages and work. That insight was key to Sessions’ 2013 win and to Trump’s successful 2016 campaign.

Breitbart cited this article from Politico which said Trump does want the wall, but his staff aren't as enthused:

Few staff members in the West Wing are as concerned about it [as the President], senior administration officials said.

Some in the White House have urged Trump not to focus as much on the wall, try to pass a clean debt-ceiling bill and move to tax reform. “You have barely anyone here saying, ‘Wall, wall, we have to get the wall at all costs,’” one White House official said.

How many of these people are people who are pro-Trump people?

They also cited this Axios report:

Instead of being able to march into the Oval Office and hand Trump the latest Breitbart headline or printouts of tweets showing how badly his amnesty drive is playing with his fiercest nationalist supporters, aides opposing the decision would now have to go through the Kelly process, which would involve submitting an official, documented, request to meet with the president.

The result: Trump gets mostly positive feedback for his turn towards bipartisanship. He watches cable news in the morning, and even “Fox and Friends” finds a way to praise his deal with the Democrats. He reads his morning news clips and briefing materials, which are managed by Staff Secretary Rob Porter, under the guidance of Kelly. And during the day it’s not possible for a staff member to sneak a story onto Trump’s desk that might rile him up and turn him in a wildly different direction in an instant.

Bottom line: Staff who oppose the moderate immigration turn no longer have unfettered access to Trump, and nor do allies on the outside who, in the first six months of the administration, used to send text messages to Trump’s bodyguard Keith Schiller, and often receive a snappy callback from the president. Kelly now has real control over the most important input: the flow of human and paper advice into the Oval Office. For a man as obsessed about his self-image as Trump, a new flow of inputs can make the world of difference.

The problem is how much is Trump hearing from his base? I wonder if he knows there are some people out there upset about this possible DACA deal with Democrats - particularly if it doesn't include wall funding to ensure we don't have to do another amnesty in a few years.

I would say it seems more encouraging at the end of the Breitbart article when they post a transcript of an interview that Mark Short did with MSNBC. He makes a good point that the fence was already voted for - funds just need to be appropriated. He also indicates they want certain things:

We’re going to be laying out what our specific priorities and principles are in that front over the next 7-10 days. We’ll make sure that you guys are all part of that … Some of the specific things that we’d probably like to see: End to sanctuary cities, expedited removal, more immigration judges, supporting things like the RAISE Act, those are things that you’ll see us focus on and talk more about in the coming days.

(Snip)

Ending illegal immigration is an important part, but also interior enforcement is critical to this administration … We have asked in our budget for 10,000 additional ICE [enforcement] agents because people are overstaying their visas. That’s a national priority, we know where they are but don’t have agents to enforce the laws of the country.

MSNBC: Is there a scenario under which the president will support a path to citizenship for dreamers.

Short: That is not a discussion that we are currently entertaining. I am not going to negotiate on your network, as much as I would like to on behalf of the president. That’s for him to make final determinations on, but [is] not something we are entertaining. We want to make sure we end chain migration and make sure there’s interior enforcement. We also want to make sure we change our system to a merit-based system. Rather than a lottery, we want to know where the economy demands jobs. It’s the way that some other countries work, their immigration systems are successful, and it is something this administration wants to push as well.

IF they can get a deal encompassing the things in this interview, then I think it will be good. It will be interesting to see what they can get, though.

If there’s any merit to this, and I’m not saying there is, it looks like Trump will go with whomever he talked to last.

I prefer to think he has more solid convictions than that, but if he doesn’t he won’t be the first. And we are screwed.

Edit - I neglected to finish this sentence:

It should say:

Reports out also have said that Omarosa (a supporter and liaison between Trump and the black community who has taken a lot of heat too) has had her access restricted by Kelly:

Miller is the last one there that believes in what Trump was elected to do. So of course Kelly shoved him out. Trump has surrounded himself with Rats it won’t end well.

Why wouldn’t Trump push back on this type of isolation?

And this, in a nut shell, is why the Republican Party is not the answer for conservatives - it's too busy being the answer for corporations.

Cernovich, Posobiec, and Roger Stone

There's your first mistake. Posobiec is a confirmed fake newsie. He literally just makes crap up based on what he thinks is going to happen. Sometimes he's right. Usually he's wrong. The "the kid CNN doxxed is actually a gay tranny!" thing, based on his alleged inside sources or contact with the kid, which actually hurt Trump when his son repeated it, was a complete fabrication. Posobiec routinely makes claims based on "sources" that do not happen whatsoever.

If he were a Biblical prophet, we would, under sanction of God, have to have killed him a hundred times over already.

Cernovich is a showman and does a little better because he might actually have real sources for his crap, but he is, in the end, just a twitter-showman. He's not exactly a high level political thinker and he will repeat rumors as fact.

Roger Stone... has a giant Richard Nixon tattoo on his back. I like Nixon and have read his biography, a very inspiring and good man, but... Stone is out there and he likes to make headlines.

All this crap about Trump being locked in a room somewhere, and he's not allowed to read Breitbart (LOL, like they're so great), is just hysteria and BS-mongering from silly people.

I object to the idea, anything could be confirmed by MSM reports.

The MSM had been lying it’s ass off for decades, and never so stridently as right now.

Anything you read is suspect.

I don’t believe much of what I see printed by the supposed right either. They seem utterly clueless to vet sources with any success.

Exactly. That’s how we know it’s pure crap. It’s the crap of the crap. Trump is not that stupid and spineless to let that happen and we shouldn’t be so stupid and spineless that we believe it.

This is ridiculous. Kelly is there, because he is who President Trump wants to be there and he is doing exactly what President Trump wants.

Every media outlet is reporting this stuff. Roger Stone is Trump’s friend and is reporting this. Cernovich has been proven right multiple times. Steve Bannon’s Breitbart is reporting this. The affect on personnel with all the pro-Trump people being purged as I went through above can’t be denied. Trump is a counter puncher, and I would think he would respond to these reports...unless he hasn’t seen them. Trump always used to respond to this stuff but hasn’t lately.
