Russia might be about to invade Europe. Here's how America should respond
Washington Examiner ^ | Aug 31, 2017, 9:37 AM | Tom Rogan

Between Sept. 14-20, the Russian armed forces will conduct a major exercise, ZAPAD 2017. Employing forces from various Russian commands, the exercise will test the military's ability to conduct a combined arms offensive. That's exactly the kind of operation Russia would use to invade Europe.

While there's nothing new in the Russians carrying out a military exercise, this situation is different due to the scale and location of the forces involved. Russia claims under 10,000 personnel will be involved but as many as 100,000 Russian soldiers are actually expected to deploy. Their number will include armored and artillery units, and strike fighter aircraft. As interesting, instead of training in Russia, the forces will conduct their exercises in Belarus. That geographic choice is designed to send a specific message to NATO.

After all, bordering NATO member Poland, Belarus offers ZAPAD forces the means to rapidly strike into the heart of NATO. Joining that threat is the Russian fortress-oblast of Kaliningrad, where reservists have been called up...................

Russian armor pours through the Fulda Gap.
After a week of losses US resupply enables NATO to slow the advance - Russia tries to regain the initiative by nuking Birmingham (England).
US and England respond by nuking Minsk.
Russia undergoes a coup and new leadership sues for peace.

Read it back in 1990 - that's from memory - think it's pretty close.

I think that what Zapad 2017 is about is Russia securing Belarus under their control. They sent the troops there and I believe these troops won’t leave.

I have talked on the internet with people from Belarus. They are sick of the communism, but they don’t dare to rebel as they believe Russia would send in their troops and kill them.

The choice for the US. Is it better to have Europe ruled by Russia or the Caliphate?

Yup. I remember when the Warsaw Pact invading Western Europe was the worst case scenario. However, if you look at Western Europe today, you see “leaders” who are actually facilitating an Islamic takeover of Western Europe (whether they admit to it or not). Of the two, I think being dominated by Russia is the lesser of the evils. Especially since Russia seems to have re-embraced its Eastern Orthodox Christian roots. In contract, Western Europeans believe in nothing....except maybe LBGT rights.

Good point - and I think that is how Russia will "invade" Europe - incrementally, like the Germans did.
A little here, a little there - knowing that the Euro-weenies won't take a stand for "just this little thing" - a little here, a little there - and in 25 years they've eaten right up to the Seine....

Reading them in order would likely be best.

Red Storm Rising however, which is the one referred to above is quite distinct from the other books which have a character development feature.

Red Storm is different in many ways and could be read separate from the ‘Jack Ryan’ books.

I loved Red Storm because it involved a scenario where the USSR invaded Europe and the NATO war plans were essentially assessed. I actually visited so many of the actual sites mentioned in the book that it felt almost eerie to me.

I read that one when it was new. Maybe time to pick it up again.

I went to Italy this summer. I saw there is a problem, but if you only learn from the internet it is overstated. I have also been to Russia and know that shit and piss that is all they have to offer is not going to make anything better.

I guess we’ll see. Eastern Europe is getting pinched now and if Germany ever got around to creating a military, I’d be really nervous, and maybe looking east, if I were Hungarian.

...but we’re not quite there yet.

If Russia invaded Europe they would not hit a strategic nuclear equipped country until they crossed the Rhine. I am NOT advocating this but if Russia did invade central and eastern Europe and de Islamed it how would history note this action?

“Russia > Islam” >>>> “USA > Islam”

I think they could make a better case, for sure with the past 2 presidents, and still today with our courts.

There are no muslims on eastern side of Rhine. Russia is the islamized one when compared to these countries.

They can massacre 100k, but the problem is that they are perceived as weak and likely to just throw down their arms.

Their weakness in their actions so far is inviting this.

Red Storm Rising is my favorite and Larry Bond helped by writing the land war parts, if I’m not mistaken.
