A relatively small air burst, or low orbit blast, over the Midwest can cause an EMP that will cripple electronics and satellite comms nationwide. Both the Norks and the Islamic Republic of Iran are actively working on this capability. Iran has vowed to "wipe Israel off the face of the earth" which should be viewed as a threat to the US and it interests. I hope you were joking.
