Police spokesman Don Aaron said the usher of the church – identified as 22-year-old Robert Engle – confronted the gunman and was pistol-whipped, receiving a “significant injury to his head.” Samson was shot in the chest during his struggle with Engle.
Aaron said the church usher, who has a valid carry permit, then went out to his car and retrieved his own gun, holding it on the gunman until police arrived. Police described the 6-foot-5 Engle as “extraordinarily brave.”
“He’s the hero. He’s the person who stopped this madness,” Metro Nashville Police Chief Steve Anderson said during a news conference.

Since the church shooting in SC caused the banning of the Confederate flag, this one should cause the banning of Islam.
Well, early reports are the perp was sudanese but I haven’t heard about him shouting looking for the snack bar.
I have to wonder if the usher and church were all praying: “God, please have this maniac accidently shoot himself.”

If ONE person had been carrying a firearm Dylan Roof would have been put down and the story would have had a better ending.
Please note that Engle first subdued the perp with physical force, perhaps gaining control of his weapon, BEFORE he retrieved his own firearm to ensure control while waiting for police.

Assuming the MSM covers this story at all, I’m sure the headline will be: “White Supremacist Shoots Black Church Goer.”

USCCB doesn’t want armed folks in church. The signs sent to our parish are in a closet - too big for our doors. SAFEST place to be — don’t ask, no one will tell. I know of one in a purse in the choir!
Lol.. I want talking to you.. I was rambling about the shooter.. my apologies.. that translated badly.
While I applaud this gentlemen for doing what he did by going back to his car for his weapon, I have a suggestion for all who CCW. A CCW license is better utilized by actually carrying a weapon on your person.
When seconds count, the police (and by corollary, your car) are only minutes away.
