What got him was when he was in the Marines and was assigned a job on a ship that was being stripped to go to the scrap year. He was exposed to a lot of asbestos and later on he got Mesothelioma. That is what killed him.

I once had a conversation with Robert Vaughn who was a friend of his. He thought it was more likely cigarettes that did him in rather than asbestos. Vaughn wasn't a dumb guy.

My understanding is If you were exposed to asbestos you might get cancer.

If you were exposed to asbestos and smoke, you will get cancer.

I had asbestos exposure in the shipyards and shipboard. So far so good.
