There is no greater unifier in this country than sports, and unfortunately, nothing more divisive than politics.Eggszactly! But what is it his players and all the BLM sympathizers doing? Injecting politics into sports! And he supports it despite his statement! Steelers owner Rooney thought he could finesse the issue by holding his players off the field, not recognizing their departure from normal form was, in fact, a political statement as well.
And ESPN was doing the same thing prior to all this Anthem business. And Hollywood prior to that. Just substitute entertainment in place of sports for the latter.
I just pray that our predictable outrage is not playing into a more sinister agenda to completely tear down our culture.
I also watch some great British series on Netflix. Foyle's War and Midsommer Murders among them. There's also a Canadian series I like a lot, Heartland. Pretty girls in cowboy hats riding horses with the Canadian Rockies in the background. What's not to like?
What angers me the most about this whole debacle is when people on the left say this is not about disrespecting our country but about bringing attention to social issues regarding race and policing or just social issues in general. Really?
If that’s true, then why did the Ravens kneel for the national anthem and rise for God Save the Queen? After all, if it is not disrespectful then stay kneeling!! If they did stay kneeling, how does the left think the UK would have reacted? They would have gone bonkers, that’s what. There would be talk of never having an NFL game played in England again!!
Doing anything other than standing and facing the flag for the national anthem has always been a sign of disrespect to the flag and by extension to this country. When Kapernick originally started this, at least he was honest and said he didn’t respect a country that could treat their minorities the way we do (paraphrase).
We can have a conversation about race, about perceived police brutality within the Black community, but if that’s your intention you have gone about it the wrong way. How many of these NFL players kneeling this weekend have gone on a ride along with the police? How many have attempted to foster good relationships with the police in their area and talk to them about treatment of minorities?

It’s all like mind candy, but at least the older mind candy didn’t also include poison. I noticed Hollywood sneaking in subliminal leftism and anti-Americanism, anti-Christian, etc long before the Sixties went radical. The only thing I’ll watch Glenn Ford in anymore is “Gilda”, and that movie was his breakout. It’s really Rita Hayworth’s show. Even in the silent era there were movies portraying Christians as bigots. Lillian Gish, a favorite actress of mine (and a true conservative) was the star of one. But at least they balanced it with positive portrayals of Christians.

I've had this conversation with friends at church. It's a start. Maybe, just maybe, with some common ground some will be brought around. If we have the conversation we're not starting from diametrically opposed places on the political spectrum. If half of what I've read and seen the President has come around a lot. As I said...it's a start.
I don't buy it. This will never fly in MLB. I know baseball had a kneeler last week. One. I guarantee he heard about it later. MLB players are better citizens and most have struggled a lot harder to get to the big leagues than NFL players have. Once there they don't want to go back down or sit on the bench til their contract expires.
So the Cubs disgraced themselves? Not surprised.

They should consider what is already happening to the NFL.

When I was quite young, I liked "I Love Lucy" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show," but don't care for either one now. Generally speaking, "shows about show business" only irritate me these days.
