Trump tax plan targets Californians
Monterey Herald ^ | 09/28/17

The cost of owning a house would increase for many Californians under President Trump’s tax proposal.

Trump’s long-anticipated overhaul lacks key details essential for meaningful evaluation, including how to pay for it and how the benefits would be distributed between the poor, middle-class and wealthy.

But it’s already clear that one provision disproportionately hurts high-tax states like California, New York and New Jersey that did not support Trump in the 2016 election:

"This high-taxed Pennsylvanian is feeling very betrayed."

As an American you should be voting for sane governing and a saner tax policy, not what helps you personally. Otherwise how are you different from the swamp creatures who put themselves first in a sleazy tit for tat whore deal, and the Constitution way down the list?

Did you vote for Trump for what he would provide you personally? For a set of favors?

Evaluate the plan on its governing merits and whether it brings the country more in line with the intentions of the founders, the Constitution and God. This is not about who gets handed what.

I'm not saying you're a swamp creature ... but that was a very gurgly muddy bubbly swamp creature statement.

PS and thank you Pennsylvanian's ... but the fact that your state was even close at all means you are a state that you are not heros, you are one of the states that almost made him lose.

I say that with humility coming from NJ and MA and now ME, however ... originally TX.

It is not just me, personally, but the entire Keystone State that is going to be thrown into the Black Lagoon.

Especially York and Lancaster counties which have some of the highest property taxes in the Commonwealth AND which tipped the popular (and hence the Electoral) vote.

Some thanks.

So screw every conservative, libertarian or non demonrat resident in the state on top of their already being screwed by the state government? Despite the fact that more tax dollars flow out of the state than come back? You know all the aholes out there with this bullshit attitude like you can go screw themselves! And with attitudes like yours I can only hope that the ongoing exodus of liberals and illegals from California choosing greener pastures choose your perfect little corner of America.

"...which have some of the highest property taxes in the Commonwealth AND which tipped the popular (and hence the Electoral) vote."

Your property taxes are YOUR STATE'S problem, not Trump's, and as I pointed out, it's pitiful that you almost lost the election for Trump, not heroic that you hardly tipped it. Also you voted for the morons who got us here in the past, do you want credit for waking up JUST BEFORE the ship crashed?

Do you really think you deserve more credit than solid red states?

"some thanks"

Give me a break.

You have to admit that it IS fair that people in different states that make the same amount of money end up paying the same amount of federal tax. If Pennsylvania wants to tax you a lot more after you pay your federal tax, that is between you and the State of Pennsylvania.

They could simply lower their state taxes, or they could give you a deduction for your federal taxes. There are lots of reasonable schemes that the different states can enact. But at the end of the day, Okies and Arkies shouldn’t be subsidizing housing tracts in Pennsylvania.

The lede is very misleading.

The Trump tax plan will do away with deductions for state and local taxes. I haven’t read anywhere the the MID is touched.

Anybody correct me if I’m wrong. Also, as someone else pointed out, the increase in the doubled personal deduction would offset any loss from eliminating the MID, if that was in the works which doesn’t appear to be the case.

The Amish—who for centuries were totally apolitical—were energized for this election.

When they realize that they were hosed they will go back to their apolitical ways.

And Pennsylvania will never have any shade of red and you GOP purist will never have the White House again.

Happy?

I am guilty of talking much more harshly to you than if we were talking in person, I'm sure we'd be friends. Bad internet habit and not what I want. Bad Owl! I take back my tone ... but not the point.

There are times when, for a short time, doing the right thing doesn't immediately or always bring roses and chocolate.

Today the state legislature passed a bill for free first year of community college for all “residents.” code for “including illegal aliens.”

You think people in other states should be subsidizing your high state taxes? If you and I make the same amount of money, do you think I should pay more in federal taxes then you?

California is really two states. I think this chart showing the degree of difficulty in obtaining a CCW permit carries over into just about all areas of government/ citizen interaction. And it’s interesting that the Liberal/Commie contingent accounts for 55%, while the Sane Counties account for 44%. So the ideas people have about the balance of power here are grossly misunderstood.

They’re crying, too damned bad. Americans shouldn’t subsidize the high taxes of California or any state.

Nope, any "subsidy" is for the farmland that makes Pennsylvania the nation's # 3 dairy producer. Ag is our # 1 industry. And far too much farmland is assessed at its potential value as housing tracts rather than as its functional value in farmland.

Oh yes, this "sounds" great as "punish the blue cities" but it going to have tsunami effect on food prices.

Enjoy your cheap ice cream while it lasts.

OK well now I take back my semi apology.

"Happy?" Yes, I'm happy. Do the Amish think long term they are better off with someone else? Then they should vote for that someone else. If they voted for Trump for short term favors rather than principle, then they don't understand anything.

Again - evaluate the plan on its merits ... and yes ... to some extent its political implications are merits, but not the greatest extent.

Oh, for those class warriors to consider

Really, so you think it is fair that other individuals in other better manged states should subsidize your bad state government. And you call that class warfare? I don't think you know what that word means.

Mississippi had the highest ratio, receiving $2.57 in federal spending per dollar of taxes paid. New Jersey had the lowest, receiving just $0.77 per dollar.

Part of the reason California pays more and receives less than other states is that it has a relatively young and wealthy population.

"Your average Californian makes more money than your average person from Kansas," Boilard added. "So, yeah, inevitably, those people will be paying more money into the system" in income taxes than they draw in federal retirement and health benefits.

The political implication in Pennsylvania is that there will never be another popular vote for a Republican candidate for POTUS.

21 EV’s permanently pizzed away to “punish” NY and CA.
