It’s not important for it to be true, only for people to think it’s true. Hope it spreads far and wide.

Maybe not, but if you’re a network signed to a long-term TV contract with the NFL and the league’s ratings are tanking to the point that you’re losing money on the deal, it might be in your best interests to blow open a story that could get you out of a bad deal by suggesting the NFL is engaging in fraud.

...intentionally losing might cost the Raiders even the chance of making it to the playoffs.

Except that we've heard an awful lot (over the last several years) that sports is "just a business." Players jump ship because "it's just a business." They don't care if they make it to the playoffs or not--they get paid anyway.

So the offensive line is now in solid with BLM.

They may have problems however with some guys in Vegas with names like Rocco and Louie the Schnozz.

Unfortunately, waiting for bombshells to be proven before hopping on the bandwagon isn’t as common as it should be.

I'm not a Raiders Fan, but with Carr they're a Super Bowl contender. Without him, they're Cleveland Browns West.

I agree that it seems dis-congruent that any group of pros would go against their $$$ interests.

Personally, that is why I prefer the NCAA to the NFL. NFL players are totally passionless unless they see some money to be made.

If this story is true, then there are adult, professional athletes out there who are so bat#%&+ crazy over this kneel/stand thing that they are willing to nuke their own careers...and that is troubling.

Only Delaware and Nevada have current betting on sports and Delaware only allows parlay betting on the NFL. Nevada stands to lose not just the hundreds of millions on betting itself, but the hotel fees, food, shows, etc. Not to mention all the support businesses in the area. Even right now all those who lost on this game can demand their money back.

However, if the story starts to leak on a site like SB Nation (which is very widely read), then the NFL reporters cannot ignore the story.

True or not this is the kind of story that will get traction.

From this point on every miss play, every dropped pass, every missed block will be looked at on if it was intentional or not.

Professional athletes are destroying themselves and all President Trump had to do was tweet

Who does or does not get a visit might depend on who tipped off the wise guys. Suppose player Jones tipped off the wise guys that the game was going to be thrown, and Washington was guaranteed to win. The wise guys would make huge bets on the game for Washington win by the point spread, and on the money line, which could be even more profitable than a straight bet based on point spread. The wise guys would then share with the mob, and everyone would be happy, and the tipster would be rewarded. If the big houses saw unusual betting patterns on the game, they would know something was up. You can't hide these things for long.

On the other hand, if player Jones did NOT tip off the wise guys that the game was going to be thrown, then yeah, he might be getting a visit from customer care representatives from Mob R Us.

Then of course, it might be possible that no one said anything, and that the Raiders legitimately lost the game.

Also, if it is anywhere near true the game was fixed, the NFL can expect a visit from President Trump's DOJ.

Professional sports decided long ago to concentrate on recruiting minority players almost to the exclusion of whites. As a result, as when the U.S. military did the same thing, we have what is now essentially another welfare class and a program to feed them. This is their payback. It’s a universal human frailty/constant. When you don’t or can’t earn your own bread, and someone else gives it to you for free, you always bite the hand that feeds you. It’s happening in professional sports, in the military and on the streets with the illegals. They all take something for nothing from Americans then when our backs are turned they give us the finger, or kneel in a sports stadium. As to the military, I saw a report recentlywhere the vast majority of military personnel come out after four years with almost $2,000 per month stipends for life. It’s not your father’s military anymore. This one is different. We have an arrogant SOB punk kid in our family who is living off the taxpayers on his military stipend at the ripe old age of 26, after spending 3 years behind a desk in Afghanistan. He brags about the govt paying him to do nothing. Never even got as much as a damned tan from being there, much less anything even approaching a band aid on his ass. As to the illegals, we have them in our neighborhood. They love American money, but hate Americans, and have nothing but contempt for us because they see us as weak and “sucking up” to them. So there is where you get the bad attitude.

Yep. So it is likely that Goddell already knows who will win the Superbowl this year. Simulation games to rake in money in the meantime.

Was a big Raiders fan in the 60s and 70s (I was born in Oakland) but gave up on them years ago when Gruden went to Tampa.

Also haven’t watched an NFL game in over 15 years, so I didn’t watch the game. While it would actually please me if true, I’m *very* skeptical of this claim.

If you have not been paying attention over the past week, then no amount of explanation will help. Go back to sleep.

The game was played in Washington with the Raiders the visiting team. The Redskins were favoured by 3 and half points. The final score was 27-10 Redskins. This whole thing is very hard to prove one way or the other but a Spockian eyebrow has been raised at least.
