“Got to think his real approval is higher than that. Also, it seems pretty unlikely that 46% strongly disapprove. What do they disapprove of? Border security? Jobs? “
In my one foray into politics, I discovered that a high percentage of people, up to 40%, will be on the other side of an issue regardless of what it will cost them. They either see the world differently from the rest of us or they have some mental issue that just makes them take the side opposite of reason. My dad, for example, was a contrary responder. If I said “it” was white he’d insist it was black. No evidence to the contrary was admissible. (This got much worse as he aged.)
A conservative looks at a line of assembly workers and sees products being built by labor freely contracted at an agreed take-it-or-leave-it wage. A Leftist sees people indentured into slavery by a money-grubbing capitalist. These two hypothetical observers aren’t making anything up. They really see the same scene differently from one another.
We run into what I call the 40/20/40 rule. On any issue 40% will see it positively, 40% will view the same issue negatively and 20% are wondering what time is lunch. All elections are a fight for 51% of the undecided’s in the middle who really don’t care. Those people vote on looks and what they heard on the news last. (This is why the eleventh hour lies by the Left work so well. They only need for certain something to appear to be true long enough to get that priceless, low information vote.)
Excellent points.
LOL - that's good General...
