**full title**‘Where is the crime exactly?’ An update on Sen. Bob Menendez’s corruption trial, a month in

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) has spent the past month on trial in New Jersey for allegations that he was bribed with villa stays, private plane flights and campaign donations to help a wealthy donor resolve several disputes with the government. It’s the first federal bribery trial of a sitting U.S. senator in more than three decades, and if he’s found guilty over the next few weeks, it could have political implications for President Trump’s agenda.

Where is the crime exactly? If there is a crime, where is it?

That’s the defense’s whole position, that there is no crime here and there is no quid pro quo.

That these guys were friends. The gifts were just that, they were gifts. And Menendez’s meetings were just legitimate legislative activity about policies he was concerned about.

She [Kathleen Sebelius] said that [then-Senate Majority Leader Harry] Reid’s request to have her meet with Menendez was “unusual.” She would meet with members of Congress all the time, but not at the request of a third party member of Congress.

Whaaa???

A U.S. Senator on trial? Must be fake news...

Can you imagine if that was, say, Pat Toomey? It would literally be called the “Trial of the Century” and he'd already be convicted in the court of public opinion.

It has gotten harder to make a corruption case since the SC reversed MacDonald’s conviction. Or so they say.
“Cold Cash” Jefferson had some convictions reversed:

He opposed Obama on Iran.

This is his punishment.

This video by Stefan Molyneux is kind of long (1:06:21), but does an excellent job of clearly explaining "where is the crime, exactly."

Sen Menendez’s real crime was not voting for Obama’s Iran deal. That’s really why he got charged.

Yup, and he made statements supporting Israel.

It was right after this that Obama's DOJ went after him.

Look folks, I am all for catching political criminals, but this is a circus sideshow.

If we had a real Attorney General, instead of Jeff Feckless, the government would go after REAL criminals, like Podesta, Hillary, Obama, Holder, Clapper, Brennan, Jarrett, Lynch, etc.

But we don't. We are stuck with Jeff Feckless.

You have it backwards.

He knew he was going to need large sums for his defense and knew he could get it from AIPAC if he opposed the Iran deal.

It shouldn't be that way but those in congress can use campaign money for their legal defense.

His fellow traveler was Mark Kirk, GOP senator from Illinois, who knew he was probably going to lose his re-election and needed lots of campaign money that he knew he could get from AIPAC.

Their bill was Kirk-Menendez

He has also a large number of Jewish constituents that he needs to represent as well. Don't forget also what happened to Ted Stevens from Alaska—his conviction for corruption in Oct 2008 was overturned as well, and the prosecuting team censured for withholding evidence and other malfeasance. This Menendez trial is a political witch hunt—if Menendez is guilty, then so are a lot of other people in our government.
