So, CNN, first how about a review of your deep, dark history of twisting or ignoring the news?

Wishing everyone a happy freedom from the stone age, tribal/genocidal warfare, human sacrifice ritual, starvation and cannibalism day!

In other words...Happy Columbus Day!

Heaven forbid CNN is forced to comment on the muslims being kicked out of Spain, also in 1492.

Hey Holly, you might want to talk to Columbus's descendant. I'm sure he'll straighten you out.

As if Columbus intentionally brought disease.
Is the author an idiot?
Disease was a two-way problem.
And as for slavery, Columbus didn’t have plans for slavery either. He set out to find an alternate trade route - one with no Muslims in the way. The old one through the Indian Ocean not only had muslims but it supported an extensive slave trade of its own that had little to do with Europe, a slave trade network never discussed in US history classes and therefore one which current activists are clueless about because it doesn’t help their agenda.

Slavery existed in the Americas before Europeans arrived... and it was no prettier, because no slaves survived to write their story.
Slaves didn’t have a lobby then. Had those empires survived and developed further, slavery and sacrificial rites would not have gone away but would have expanded with demand and with no beasts of burden in the New World [save for some societies’ llamas] slavery would have no end... because New World societies lacked Christianity, they also lacked an ethical or religious reason to ever abolish their forms of slavery and had every reason to expand it to their weaker neighbors.
So even if Columbus never stumbled on them, it would only be a matter of time before someone else did. Being less developed for lack of contact and lack of beasts of burden, they still would have lost to any motivated newcomers who had extensive trade, technology, and animal power.

Funny how liberals never want to talk about the dark history of the Democratic Party.
Nor the dark history of Planned Parenthood and Margaret Sanger.
Nor the dark history of the Communist Party.
Nor the dark history of Che...
Nor the dark history of the SDS...
Nor...

Germany wasn’t even a nation when Columbus sailed but a loose assortment of feudal states.
There were various New World nations speaking various languages ...and much later in the north, the British recognized certain Indian nations as such.
The Aztecs were not just a nation, they were an empire of conquest, not merely a single tribe, though they started as one. Incas and Mayas too, were nations. For the most part the other people around were akin to European city-states....

But it’s true there was no single monolithic continent spanning nation. Not that that is even relevant to the issue.

In 1492, the Mexicans were hogging all the chocolate. Thanks to Columbus, the rest of the world now has chocolate.

Just a little useful perspective...

It’s called conquest. There are winners and losers. Been going on since the beginning of time and will continue until the end of time.
