Cowboys coaches, players meet over Jerry Jones' anthem comments
ESPN ^ | October 11, 2017 | Todd Archer

In a meeting with coaches, Dallas Cowboys players were told to bring their concerns about comments made by Jerry Jones regarding his stance on the national anthem to the owner and general manager, according to a source.

NFL Network was the first to report the meeting.

Since Sunday, Jones has been outspoken regarding his stance that players must "not disrespect the flag" and that they must stand for the anthem or they will be benched.

Speaking on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas on Tuesday, Jones said the players could express themselves prior to the national anthem in a similar manner to how the team handled things before their Sept. 25 game at the Arizona Cardinals.

Before the anthem of that game, players stood arm in arm with Jones, other front office executives, coaches and staff and took a knee. During the anthem, they stood arm in arm.

In the two games since, the Cowboys have stood on the sideline as normal.

"If there's anything that is disrespectful to the flag, then we will not play," Jones said after Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers. "Understand? We will not ... if we are disrespecting the flag, then we will not play. Period."

Jones reiterated the stance on numerous occasions since. A local labor union has filed a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board against the Cowboys saying Jones' threats prevent allowable, "concerted activity" at work. The team and the NFL declined comment on the filing.

Players returned to the practice field Wednesday for the first time since the Packers game and are scheduled to meet with the media in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin, the team's NFLPA representative, didn't want to talk much about Jones or potentially being required to stand for the anthem.

He did say, however, that when the NFLPA responds to this, the message will be clear.

"The message will be put out," Quin said. "The message, it will be out. Clearly."

ESPN Lions reporter Michael Rothstein contributed to this report.

Well, I had have an employer in the past, who presented me with an “agreement” that I was supposed to sign, and it started off, in the VERY first paragraph, saying that I was expected to work for that person 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I think he meant that my “loyalty” was expected.

But I didn’t read any more and told him I would not sign it with that 24/7 provision. His wife was his lawyer, and I don’t think he wanted to tell her it was wrong, so it never came up again.

Seems to me that the owners define what is "allowable" for their team.

Unless...this is the opening salvo of the league changing it's rules - to allow player protests as a regular part of the game.

This is what you get when 70% of the players are blacks, who are also easily manipulated by the leftist news media and the Rats.

The fact that 93 percent of blacks vote dem still amazes me.

"I don’t remember any of the places I’ve worked having meetings about which of the owner’s policies we were going to follow and which we were going to disregard. Do you?"

Well....they're mostly Black so they have to be treated special.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! He values his paycheck too much not to play. If they were all benched, he'd be sending in the water boys and cheerleaders.

Hey players and coaches, can you just do what the boss tells you to do and get your mind back on what you are paid to do, which is to play football and win games?

The NFL certainly is not doing anything to dispel the stereotype of football players being big, dumb blockheads.

This whole scenario is more than pure silliness. . .it’s absurdity at its finest. Grown men debating whether they should stand to honor the symbols of freedom and sacrifice or take the knee. I wonder if they are planning to debate whether to lie prostrate or turn their backs on the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Amazing. 99.9% of those who have a boss and owner could not possibly get away with this. Even a union knows the owner has the ultimate god power. If I went to work tomorrow acting like this, I would be terminated immediately.

What the Cowboys coaches and players SHOULD be talking about is how they got their a$$es beaten by the Rams and Packers and how to avoid further beatings.

When MLB umpires submitted a mass resignation, and the owners ACCEPTED, the NLRB ruled that quitting your job en-masse was a LEGITIMATE FORM of PROTEST and that this did NOT necessarily mean that they had quit.

MLB had to re-hire some of those umpires as a result.
The NLRB is warped.

My little talk to the players would go like this:

“No one will take a knee or do anything else that shows disrespect to our nation’s flag, our team or our fans.
You will get your black asses, brown asses, white asses and rosy red asses up and stand, toes at the line, with your right hand over your heart. You will face the flag and reflect on what the colors of the flag mean; red for hardiness and valor, white for purity or innocence and blue for vigilance, perseverance and justice. I suggest you also reflect on how fortunate you are to be living in the greatest country in the world, making enough money, in a few short seasons, for your family to live the rest of their lives in comfort and security.
There will be no celebrating on the field after a play other than a fist bump or clap of hands. Good plays are expected. It is what you practice for and are paid to do. There will be no clenched fists raised in the Communist or black power salute. Any one that does not adhere to these rules should pack their bags leave.”

Especially since twenty percent of the black vote went for President Trump in 2016.

To continue the talk... No-one cares about or wants to hear your views on politics, race, or anything else except football. I don't care, the other coaches don't care, and you better not give the fans a reason to care, on or off the field. If this is a problem for you then leave the team now.

If Jones actually fires a player for disrespecting the flag I, a lifelong Redskins fanatic, will become a Cowboys fan.
