Backlash swift after Trump tweet on NBC
The Hill ^ | 10/12/2017 | Harper Neidig

President Trump's suggestion that NBC should potentially have its broadcast license challenged has prompted a wave of condemnation from both sides of the aisle, with many saying that such a move would violate the First Amendment.

Trump lashed out at NBC News on Wednesday after the outlet reported that Trump had suggested increasing the nation's nuclear arms stockpile during a meeting with top Cabinet officials.

"With all of the Fake News coming out of NBC and the Networks, at what point is it appropriate to challenge their License? Bad for country!" Trump tweeted.

‘I’m trying to remember where ‘lying’ is a protected free speech . . . can’t seem to do it.’

So silly.

If NBC says they are a legit news organization they must act as such. Anyone can get a blog and blather on about whatever.

They cannot lie and claim first amendment protection that’s just silly

Back in the day, during the Clinton admin, when the NYT got caught lying about something pretty big, it wasat least talked about. It was when David letterman could be funny, before he had Hillary on and he had to have emergency coronary bypass surgery the next day and henceforth all late night talk would be undeclared a liberal anger outlet

Letterman said in his monologue the NYT motto would have to be changed from ‘all the news that’s fit to print’ so he did a top ten. Number one was ‘don’t go there girlfriend’

That was she late night was comedy and tge news media was expected to be at least trustworthy

Yes Mark Levin I do miss Johnny Carson

I seem to remember one of the big three was fined by the FCC for super bowl content issues?

There are licenses issued for pretty much every kind profession and service you can think of. And they all have one thing in common: an expectation of competence, integrity, and responsibility. Why should any different criteria be expected of the broadcasting industry?

Agreed and I find it hilarious that all the known liars are barking mad these days. It’s a dialogue I truly want explored as my opinion is shared by many, the media is border line dangerous in this country.

The “Freedom of the Press” was never intended to protect anti-America propaganda - it was designed to ensure the Truth could get out....

Justice Anthony Kennedy said the First Amendment protects speech we detest as well as speech we embrace, and while it does not protect all lying, it protects lies like the ones Alvarez told. In essence, the Court said lying about receiving military honors is contemptible but constitutional.

The use of the word ‘lying’ here is more semantical in essence. The true freedom of speech is stealing the valor.

In my opinion.

They can say he should be impeached, but he can’t say they should be closed down.

I guess for the lefties, free speech only works one way.

The “Freedom of the Press”

People are starting to grasp that the press shields themselves with the right to lie.

Does the First Amendment protect outright lies? Look up the legal torts known as libel and slander.

The licenses belong to the individual network affiliates...

That's true. So hold the local affiliates accountable for their broadcast content.

Um, I don't think that TV broadcasts are an inalienable right granted to NBC by the Creator.

Trump is just toying with them. As always, they are falling into his trap hook, line and sinker.
