London’s Metropolitan Police Force has said it will give up on investigating many instances of “low-level” crime such as shoplifting and vandalism, saying it is “not practical” to fight them in a time of cutbacks.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Mark Simmons claimed that giving up on investigating many offences was necessary so police constables’ efforts could be “focused on serious crime and cases where there is a realistic chance that we will be able to solve it.”
The move has raised eyebrows among members of the public, considering recent reports that the Met detained 867 out of the 3,395 people known to have been arrested for “offensive” online comments under the Malicious Communications Act in 2016 — an increase of 53 per cent for the force area since 2014.
Around half of these investigations ended up having to be dropped across the UK, which critics have taken as indicating police are being overzealous in their attempts to take on so-called trolls.

This is the same stupidity they practiced in NYC decades ago before Giuliani became mayor. The prior mayor decided not to prosecute “minor” crimes. The result was NYC became a craphole. As soon as Rudy enforced ALL laws, NYC got cleaned up and property values went back up, crime rate went down. Now DiBlasio in NYC is back to the “no prosecute” mode and sure enough, crime is going up again. If I lived in London, I’d make a regular weekly trip to the supermarket and stock up on steak and lobster courtesy of the London police.
He forgot to add this: “We will also not prosecute those who take any action against shoplifters, petty thieves, or vandals.”
Of course they would only prosecute the “speech Crimes”. Scaring a population is so much more effective in instituting leftist Totalitarian fascism.
Any predictions on the change in shoplifting rates under this new policy? My vote? Allow store owners to just shoot shoplifters if the police (under a pro-criminal socialist mayor) are not permitted to do their job.
