“First of all, what kind of wife would allow a personal, intimate call, from the POTUS to be aired to everyone in the car she is riding in. The loss of her Hero husband in defense of his country is a private matter to be discussed only between the POTUS and the wife of the fallen hero.”
Too bad an investigative reporter doesn’t analyze the whole situation for the full sequence of events. Four soldiers killed in Niger. One of them is from Congresswoman Wilson’s district. She has a history of extreme prejudice against Trump and looking for any opportunity to find fault. I personally thing the question to Trump was a plant to prompt him to make personal calls in this particular instance so that the Congresswoman could make the insensitive ... claims no matter what Trump said. How long had Wilson been with Sergeant Johnson’s widow? I wouldn’t be surprised if she had not been with her quite a bit since the trap was laid so that she could be there when the call came.
It is quite interesting that Wilson did not hear the whole conversation, that it was put on speakerphone in the car while they were travelling. Wilson said she had not heard the whole conversation, and her initial comments showed she was interpreting what she heard to color the comments as she went along. Her initial comment was not saying a direct quote - she said:
“ Well, basically he said, umm, well I guess he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurts. That’s what he said.”
Then the CNN interviewer coached her to get the “He knew what he was signing up for....” quote.
“Basically” - in other words she was putting the words together that she could use to malign Trump. It would not be out of line for Trump to complement her husband on “signing up” for service and willingly taking the risk.
I know a couple of Gold Star families, both lost their loved ones within a few months of each other (one in Afghanistan, one in Iraq) and I’ve never heard either family mention a call from then President Obama. Of course, at the rate that Obama’s military saw deaths due to his policies, he would have had a hard time keeping up. No one ever seems to mention deaths under Zero were nearly triple those under Bush.
