Air Force question???
Does the US Navy have carrier based MOAB capability??
Anyone catch what General Kelly said today about thousands of soldiers on Okinawa awaiting orders? May have been a slip up. But when he said it it made me realize we’re ready to pull that trigger on Rocket Man.
It’s difficult to imagine the space for crewmen on a 100,000 ton carrier, even though I know the aircraft are much larger now.
I served on the FDR (CVA-42) 1960-62, which was designed for 3600. However, we carried 5000 personnel including the squadrons. The FDR was just 55,000 tons, so space for personnel was very small. We carried about 100 aircraft of various types.
Berthing for enlisted was a piece of canvas (3x6) lashed to an aluminum frame in a stack of three “racks”. Pillow and mattress were 2” thick. Mattress had a cover like a pillow slip and there was a small sheet and wool blanket.
The shows I’ve seen aboard modern carriers show the crew berthing to be real beds and lots of space. GOOD FOR THEM!!
I also have to say that the best food I’ve eaten was during my two years on that ship! Navy cooks are great!
