Geoengineering is one of my worst nightmares. The problem is that engineering works. As a mathematician, I know the limits of mathematical models. If the coefficients in climate change models are wrong, which is almost a guarantee, geoengineering could trigger a new ice age.
We could spend 50,000 years fighting off glaciers if we correctly counter two degrees of warming, and if it turns out that the warming wasn’t actually happening. That scares me a whole lot more than living through a repeat of the medieval climate optimum.
And how so they know what the perfect temperature should be?
They don’t.

The next Ice Age is coming, and nothing can be done to prevent it. We already know about certain patterns, such as 100,000 years of ice, with warming periods of 10,000 to 15,000 years. The Sun controls all of this. There have been ‘Little Ice Ages’ of a few hundred years, most recently when the river Thames froze in England. There also may be large patterns, such as when our Solar System plows through major clouds of gas and / or dust in the Milky Way galaxy.
