The federal corruption trial of U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez could drag out even longer if the judge hearing the case has to dismiss a juror who's nearing her vacation.
U.S. District Judge William Walls on Wednesday warned attorneys on both sides in the bribery trial of the Democratic senator from New Jersey and Florida ophthalmologist Salomon Melgen that he would have to replace a juror if the deliberating panel doesn't reach a verdict by Nov. 10, the start of the female juror's vacation.
In scheduling the final stages of the trial, which has stretched into his ninth week, Walls said Wednesday he promised jurors when they were selected in August that he would accommodate the juror's vacation plans "and I intend to keep that promise."

Will this delay building the gallows?
Judge Walls is a typical government employee. Tell the woman, tough toenails, she can reschedule her vacation.
I figure she is employed and planned the vacation months ago. Hotels & transportation already reserved paid for.
If they knew the trial would have taken longer she would have been excused.
My county allows you to delay jury duty to a later date with an excuse.
When I’ve been called for jury duty it’s always been the case that a prospective juror who could document existing travel reservations would be given a postponement of their jury duty to another date or get assigned to a case with a trial schedule that didn’t interfere with their travel plans.
Should not have been picked for this trial. The defense had every intention of dragging the trial out and making as long and tedious as possible.
Not much they can do. Closing arguments are tomorrow.
No; it will delay conviction until after the governor election next week.
Exactly WHY has this trial dragged on so long? What legitimate excuse is there for stretching this - other than the defense intentionally trying to screw the trial schedule up....?
Judge should have dismissed juror who (probably) told him/them about the already set plans, instead of (probably) saying, it would all be over by them so nothing to worry about.
