Multiple witnesses told CBS affiliate KENS that several people were shot at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs.
Dana Fletcher, a business owner in the area, told CBS News she saw a "ton" of sheriff's vehicles and ambulances racing down the road. She said she doesn't know what happened but said there was heavy police presence and people being airlifted from the scene.
A reply to Post 16.
I was born in Texas, left after college but returned for two years, and all of my family is still there. Ive never been to a majority white town though. Ive always felt like I was in another country. Its just as bad as California As far as the invasion goes. Politics, are of course much better. For now. I dont know how she manages, with being so invaded.
Thanks! I read that comment wrong.....thought you were saying that it is not uncommon for shootings like this in rural Tx.!....Thanks for clarifying.
If you were born and reared here, you know that Texas is a big place, a wide variety in climate, geography, demographics, speech patterns, etc.
We even have multiple towns that still have roots in their Republic of Texas roots — Danevang for the Danes, multiple German towns, Czech, etc.
Yes, immigration from all over the world, both legal and illegal, has impacted Texas like it has most of the country. But there are many little Texas towns that retain their character from decades past. I grew up in one of them. It’s common.
And we were also once part of France, Spain, Mexico. Lots of fine loyal Americans whose families have been here for decades, who have hispanic names, and whom I’m proud to call fellow Texans, friends, and neighbors.
This awful shooting hits home for me, because it could easily have been my family worshiping this morning in the little church on the square in the little town where I grew up.
Thanks so much! That’s the name that has been posted on some media sites.
Thanks again!
I found it...how sad:
FYI: Chris Ward was NOT the shooter!
His family are victims!
Joey Calderon: Not that I dont believe you but how did you find this out?
Edith Sommer: He is my nephew and we are at the hospital trying to find out if his wife and babies are dead.
Wait, you've never been to the Dallas exburbs; Montgomery Co/Conroe/TheWoodlands; KendallCo/Fair Oaks, or the Hill Country? Or the plain old Midwest?
Varying climate and geography? Interesting thought. That explains why you think shes not invaded. I saw nothing but, whether in Fredericksburg or San Antonio or El Paso or Houston or Victoria. Only Kerrville seemed like the US, and only in comparison to the rest of the state. But its only a matter of time.
But we agree that the killings are atrocious and so sad for everyone involved.
Ive been to Kerrville so I stand corrected. It wont be long though, looking at patterns.
Denial makes life easier.
As soon as you get out of the cities and large towns it is mostly white.
.
There are some disturbing images of screenshots just posted as replies by a Drew Nichols on that thread that indicate possible targeting of that church. Unless the screenshots are a hoax.
Another reply says shooter is Devin P Kelley, 26 of San Antonio.
Very nice town. Hope you get a chance to visit all the rest soon, maybe even move!
It is nice there. My sister and brother-in-law lived there, in an early 1900s house. Huge house with beautiful acreage.
One thing I do like about East Texas is all the rivers.
As soon as you get out of the cities and large towns it is mostly white.
Now thats pretty interesting. Why would that be? Many of the little towns in California are primarily illegals or descendants of. I wonder why Texas is so different? I guess I never came across one of those little towns. A lot of the little ones outside of El Paso, or Corpus Christi, didnt seem to have very many white people.
Don’t know much about Corpus but east of El Paso there are lots of colonias, little makeshift villages of illegals from Mexico.
They are like little fingers of Juarez and actually all along the border, hanging on in the U.S., sometimes no more than 1/4 mile.
Undoubtedly they are nests for border traffickers, human, drugs, etc.
I don’t understand why they are tolerated there, generally there are plenty of ways to justify cleaning them out such as no running water, no sewer, all such as that.
In most all of Texas that is not tolerated in the least and in the rural areas the living is kind of tough.
No sanctuary anything.

Yes....I see what you mean. If you go to the church’s page, you will see hundreds of “likes” by Muslims...at least Muslim names. Whether they were placed there today, or in the past, that’s what they’re apparently trying to figure out.
For instance, look at October 2nd post by the pastor. See the “likes” (hundreds of Muslim names) and look at this comment:
Tom DeMartino FBI Federal Bureau of Investigation:
“This is a small church with limited members. Why were many of its recent posts being liked by and commented on by non members with non Christian names?”
“From what I see it had no ongoing interfaith dialogues that would explain it.”
You’ll see hundreds of “likes” by what look like Muslim names for several September posts also. It looks like the guy (who says he’s from the FBI) is trying to determine if they were posted in the past or today.

How is a town in Texas majority white?
????
I’ll put it like this: I haven’t had much time to browse today but when I saw this the first thing I did was to go check on my parents’ rural Texas church FB page for similar activity.
