I know this story has been overshadowed by the church shooting. But, this is as serious as the Steve Scalise shooting, in that, a member of Congress, a Republican, is fighting major injuries, which could have been fatal.
My thoughts are along the same lines as yours. This and the Baseball Practice attempted massacre seem to be of the same ilk. It seems like well-orchestrated attempts to assassinate conservative leaders. We need to know who’s behind these assassination attempts.

With the possibility of pneumonia, it could still be fatal.
Not sure what the doctor hoped to accomplished by tackling him. It appears the doctor has anger management issues, to say the least, that need to be treated.
