Twitter users had some thoughts on Hicks’ suave style.

It was a sharp, very au courant look for the 29-year-old fashion plate, who generally favors feminine floral frocks

This is some ridiculous, modern-day knot slip-up that made it to primetime because enough people were doing it.

It’s the buttons that kill me. Plastic buttons on a tux ? Party foul.

But as I said in another post here, she’s a woman and can be forgiven this sin. I’ve seen presidents dressed like homeless waiters between 09 and 17.

The Trumps know how to dress. And for that, I am proud.

... She uses Janelle Monae as a model.

That’s not a smart idea.

A silk pussybow and no cumberbund for Hope.
She makes it work. The crisp formality is balanced by her wild mane of hair.

“Also, I question a DC administration communications employee deliberately upstaging the President, the First Lady and the Japanese First family with a get-up which may be considered distasteful and disrespectful at a State Dinner in an allied Asian country.....and uncomfortable to many conservatives, also, given the setting.”

Oh he probably liked them but was more than willing to settle for less, i.e. whatever was within “arms reach”

“How manly of her....”

“Manly” is furthest thing from what she looked like.

My first thought was lipstick lesbian. As far as I can tell she lives with her sister and has never been married. Maybe this was a coming out party for her...

She is only 29 years old. And all the dogs in DC who sexually harass women all the time, she is probably on the defensive most of the time. My wife an I were 28 and still managed 4 children. So she is not an old spinster quite yet.

Other arguments aside, which I actually think have merit, I've seen photographs of Mrs. Trump at that dinner.

I promise you that NOBODY upstaged her. Our First Lady is a true gift to our country.

It is unfortunate that so many FReepers jumped to negative conclusions before doing their homework on Trump’s lovely communications director.

I agree with you. It's hard to upstage our First Lady fashion-wise. However, an American guest dressing in men's clothes had nothing to do with Mrs. Trump's attire for the evening...and everything to do with the DC communications employee deliberately trying to make a titillating sensation at a foreign State Dinner no matter how distasteful the host country or many of her fellow Americans may have found it.
