We had one phone in the kitchen and one phone in either the hall upstairs or my parents bedroom. All I remember was there was NO PRIVACY when a boy called ; )

Same thing here. I was 17 in 1972. We had two wired phones, one in the kitchen and one in our parent’s bedroom. We always knew that if we were on the kitchen phone talking to a boy, Dad was on the extension.
