combat loading. 1 in the chamber, 2 in the magazine, 1 or 2 in the left hand to roll into the open chamber after the last shot.
I have seen a Browning Auto-5 self destruct from a double powder charge bad reload. I have seen several Remington Model 1100 autos fail to eject, fail to feed, and fail to fire. Would never own an auto or use if my life depended on it.
I’ve had several shotguns, hence my screen name, both pump action and semi-auto loaders, and never experienced stove piping, with either reloads or factory ammo.
My 870 Wingmaster 12ga. with a full choke 30 inch barrel was a long range hammer. My Beretta A606 Sporting Clays 12ga. was my preferred shotgun but it was over 10 pounds loaded. I could sometime pull off 2 shots with a single trigger pull. My Benelli 20ga Super Blackhawk was like pulling a pistol and extremely quick to shoulder for quail hunting.
I once dropped 4 chukars with my 1911 I loaded with snake shot. I was training my dogs for the upcoming season and I thought they had buzzed up a snake. I drew my pistol and was looking at the area where I thought I heard it and was ready to fire when this covey of 20+ chukars exploded. My instinct was to shoot so I opened up. The only reason I shot 4 was because the 4th round stove piped.
However, if I happen to be in bear country I could see the point to only loading one round of bird shot to (hopefully) get a single.
Come to think of it, who goes pheasant hunting to get more than a single bird at a time? Made me happy as could be at the time.
Oh BTW good on that young man. He did real good.
These Bear stories are Fascinating!
I think fear and respect for big furry predators is hardwired into us.
Bear stories are fascinating. I think that is why.
Thanks for the link. I forgot about them.
Thats the truth, Seruzawa. The semi auto may jam. Right there that makes the pump the weapon of choice.
That's why I prefer KS over Montana or Alaska.........LOL!
I stayed in Logan when I hunted out there......
