The down and dirty - the old guard has been running the country and milking it for everything it had since the revolution.

The wife is leader of the younger generation that wants to get on the same gravy train - by kicking the old guard out and becoming their replacements.

By sacking the VP (old guard) the wife solidified her position as the next leader of the country. The old guard, which includes the military leadership, saw this as a direct threat to their power and so has stepped in.

Bottom line - nothing is going to change for the little people.

This is very true but it does not change the fact that the big powers have a strong stake in the region because of the war on terror and they will take appropriate measures to stabilize the situation and put into power those who will make sure that those strategic objectives are being met. Consider how we backed Saddam early when the Shah was overthrown. This situation is no different.

You need to understand that their domestic situation instability has a huge impact on the current global security situation for the region. The concerns about it are covered by both the State Department and the Counter-Terrorism think tank.

“Bottom line - nothing is going to change for the little people.”

Politically, very true.

They do have economic opportunities though.

The gist of it, is that almost anything would be an improvement over Mugabe. Even though they have the same ruling clique, they have a great opportunity to try a bit of re-branding, or roll out some new policies. They could have a sot at some sanctions relief, if they play their cards right.

I would guess that their Chinese overlords should have a few business ideas as well.

Although it would be really hard to do worse than Mugabe, if anyone could, it would be the Zanu-PF Party (which will remain in control).

Cathy Buckle hasn’t posted since Nov 10, just prior to the recent upwelling. If the web isn’t censored, she’ll be reporting in from Zimbabwe through the eyes of a Mugabe apologist. Should be good.

Exactly so...this is all about internal politics, though the ANC, in RSA probably has a bit to do with it as well, because the Zimbabwean ILLEGAL ALIENS who keep crossing the border, no doubt had something to do with it too. If Mugabe’s wife took over, that would send even more of the illegals running to RSA, than ever before.
