Congressman told woman he would report her to Capitol Police if she exposed his secret sex life
Washington Post ^

Rep. Joe Barton, who apologized Wednesday for a lewd photo of him that circulated on the Internet, told a woman to whom he had sent sexually explicit photos, videos and messages that he would report her to the Capitol Police if she exposed his behavior, according to a recording reviewed by The Washington Post.

The woman spoke to The Post after the lewd photo was published Tuesday by an anonymous Twitter account. She shared a secretly recorded phone conversation she had with Barton in 2015 in which he warned her against using the explicit materials “in a way that would negatively affect my career.”

Besides the recording of the phone call, the woman shared text and social-media messages she exchanged with Barton, as well as a 53-second cellphone video Barton recorded of himself while masturbating. The conspiracy theory website InfoWars obtained a copy of the video and published it Wednesday night, though the video appeared to have been removed from the site several hours later.

The lewd Twitter photo that Barton acknowledged on Wednesday appears to have been captured from that video. The woman said she did not post the image herself. She shared phone numbers for Barton that match his personal and government-issued cellphones. Barton was not abusive or coercive in his interactions, the woman said, but said she felt he was “manipulative and dishonest and misleading” in his dealings with her and other women.

It may not have been her that posted the picture to Twitter.

So, if it was not her who posted the picture, can it still be considered Revenge Porn?

We know that Barton consented to the pictures being taken, we know that Barton distributed the picture and we know Barton is above legal age,

Where is the violation of the law?

I'm certainly no fan of this guy, but since when has telling someone you are going to report them to the police become a crime in itself? And since when has being perceived as "misleading" become an offense punishable by law?

I think the answer to both questions is, "Ever since it became open season in America to throw rotten tomatoes and eggs at white males with no fear of retribution. Because we all know white males have NO civil rights. The law reserves those for minorities, children, and females alone".

He should be toast, but you wouldn’t believe the people on our side, defending him and demanding that people leave him alone, because it was “consensual,” he didn’t force himself on anyone.

Not that the world cares, but he broke God’s laws, and his amoral behavior and lack of judgment should disqualify him from ever holding a government position.

No, it’s illegal to release those types of photos without consent

Pack up your kit and leave, Joe. I trust the Governor of Texas to appoint a conservative replacement.

Partner, you got that right. We need to send this Congress Critter Pervert back to Texas as a civilian.

We r 100% sure that the Gov' will appoint a conservative non-pervert congress critter back to D.C. to clean up the Swamp.

Boy do we know that D.C. Swamp needs to be drained.

True definition of a “cuck”. Just like the couple who brought down the Alabama Gov. I bet her husband got off on the whole ordeal. AND NOTHING about them in the media, now. *crickets*

My wife said the same. Women were better off staying, and raising kids while the guy was working. The kids then were actually raised, and not ignored off parents who think giving kids what they want to shut them up is good parenting. ‘
Today most women are nasty with ugly tats, fat, wearing tight clothes showing their spare fat around their bodies,

I’m normally not sympathetic to men in this situation.
After reading the headline, I was expecting to read yet another #metoo story of a victimized woman.

And then the facts unfold. Pictures taken during a consensual relationship (albeit stupidly). Anonymous woman finds out about other women he has been dating. She threatens him with the pictures (did she demand favors? Money?)
He threatens to tell the police - and why shouldn’t he?

Was it stupid and creepy? Yes.

But she’s no victim. And I think the millions of retweets and Internet jokes are punishment enough for this guy.

governor only appoints replacements for open Senate seats. this seat will be open until special election.

You’re right. But fortunately, we have a large enough majority in the house, that he won’t be missed, especially if the democrats who are found to have sexually abused or harassed women (or men), resign. Of course, that’s why some democrats in Congress are refusing to demand THEIR perverts resign.

“No, it’s illegal to release those types of photos without consent.”

Joe Barton released the picture as well as his solo video.

Thanks, Conservative Tejano. (But as a fellow Freeper just reminded me, on Senators are replaced by appointment). It’s all good, though! The swamp is, indeed, starting to drain!

Calling the Capitol Police is what any regular ole’ American would do if they needed to intimidate a fellow citizen.

If one is a Congressman and is being blackmailed or otherwise illegally pressured I suppose so. Otherwise, he brought this on himself. In any case, he should not run for reelection.
