Virginia mom charged after sending daughter to school with device to record alleged bullying

A Virginia mother has reportedly been charged with a felony after putting a recording device in her daughter’s backpack to catch alleged bullying.

Sarah Sims put a digital recorder into her 9-year-old daughter’s backpack in September in an attempt to obtain proof that she was being bullied at Ocean View Elementary School in Norfolk and to show that no one was helping her daughter, WAVY-TV reported.

“If I’m not getting an answer from you what am I left to do?” Sims said of trying to take action on her own, noting the school didn’t respond to her repeated calls and emails.

Sims’ recorder was found, and her daughter was reportedly moved to another classroom. A month later, Sims was charged with felony use of device to intercept oral communication and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to WAVY. With the charge, Sims could face five years in prison.

“I was mortified,” Sims told WAVY. “The next thing I know I’m a felon. Felony charges and a misdemeanor when I’m trying to look out for my kid. What do you do?”

Ocean View Elementary School nor the Norfolk School District were immediately available for comment. Ocean View, however, told WAVY that they couldn’t comment on the pending investigation.

Electronic devices aren’t allowed in classrooms, the school said.

This woman must realize that that child is not hers. The deep state will not tolerate efforts to expose their efforts to brainwash their children. This is only a felony. Eventually they will make it a capital crime. She may not be convicted but she will be financially ruined. Punishment for bullying must be proportional. If an excess number of bullies are from one group they cannot be punished.

...“Electronic devices aren’t allowed in classrooms,”

Every public school should have cameras...

This is a perfect case for trial and jury nullification.

My 7 year old daughter had a similar bullying and inappropriate harassment /assault problem which went unresponded to for months. Then I gave my daughter permission to respond. An aluminum baseball bat at recess was her tool of choice. The suspension was well worth it. Nobody ever bothered her again.

Your daughter sounds like a very tough, courageous little girl. Perhaps she has a future in the military! Kudos to you for raising someone so brave. :)

No electronic devices?

I suppose none of these students have cell phones in their back pocket, purse or backpack. /s

Why are **children** sent into environments that would win millions for adults in a similar situation?

They don’t want recordings of them doing little other than indoctrination.

Mom may not have the funds/insight into the legal system to pull off a jury trial. In this case, the school system is successful in their bullying efforts.

What does this teach the kids? You, too can be a bully so long as you do it legally.

At least we would finally see money spent that actually provides a service to both the taxpayers and the children. I set up a wireless system at my house for less than 500 dollars with 6 camera’s and a central monitor. I’m more interested in seeing what the teachers are up to than the children.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Every government classroom in this nation should be fully recorded and available (immediately) on-line for the entire world to see.

Bullying exists in prisons, too.

The brick and mortar school resembles prisons in many ways and that is why bullying is a continuing problem.

Why are **children** expected to put up with a social environment that would win an adult MILLIONS in court? Is this rational?

There are some problems the government can’t fix and times when people must fend for themselves. The left refused to understand this.

The government seems to have privacy rights while the people have none.

A case can be made to prohibit recording devices in police stations, courts, but you would think that public schools should be public and recording devices allowed. The only possible expectation for privacy is other students which could be the issue here. But, admistrators and teachers should have no expectation of privacy when they are performing their jobs.

If the daughter was transgender, the school would be all over it. That is the real agenda with the anti-bullying campaigns in the schools. Normal everyday bullying is not worth their time.

I agree with this.

Need to add that some of the bullies are much larger and have “friends”. I’ve seen this firsthand in my sons middle school. The slogan “Zero Tolerance” is utter bs spewed by schools and their administrations.

“This is a perfect case for trial and jury nullification.”

In what way? I’m not sure I understand.
