Virginia mom charged after sending daughter to school with device to record alleged bullying

A Virginia mother has reportedly been charged with a felony after putting a recording device in her daughter’s backpack to catch alleged bullying.

Sarah Sims put a digital recorder into her 9-year-old daughter’s backpack in September in an attempt to obtain proof that she was being bullied at Ocean View Elementary School in Norfolk and to show that no one was helping her daughter, WAVY-TV reported.

“If I’m not getting an answer from you what am I left to do?” Sims said of trying to take action on her own, noting the school didn’t respond to her repeated calls and emails.

Sims’ recorder was found, and her daughter was reportedly moved to another classroom. A month later, Sims was charged with felony use of device to intercept oral communication and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to WAVY. With the charge, Sims could face five years in prison.

“I was mortified,” Sims told WAVY. “The next thing I know I’m a felon. Felony charges and a misdemeanor when I’m trying to look out for my kid. What do you do?”

Ocean View Elementary School nor the Norfolk School District were immediately available for comment. Ocean View, however, told WAVY that they couldn’t comment on the pending investigation.

Electronic devices aren’t allowed in classrooms, the school said.

The school that fears recording of the classroom is not a good school.

Schools have been trying to solve the bully problem for decades. And they only seem to make it worse. Generally, the only people who ever get punished for bullying are the victims and the families of the victims.

I have no problem if she wished to document it, but bullying is part of life. The education Nazis are simply out of control and it gets worse as one moves into “higher education.”

“Electronic devices aren’t allowed in classrooms,”

Every public school should have cameras in every room so parents can go online at any time and see what’s going on. I think my friend was able to do that when her grandchild was in nursery school. Why not do it in all schools? It’s insane that parents turn over their kids to people they don’t know for a great part of every day.

Enrolling one’s children in public school guarantees disaster.

felony use of device to intercept oral communication and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor

First charge will get tossed as Virginia is a one party consent state. Only one person in a conversation needs to know of the recording. The second charge is ludicrous and will be easily defeated showing the intent was to prevent/uncover a crime.

I have observed that for the bullies themselves, most of the time, you have ineffective parents behind the bully.

She could install Three Billboards at the edge of town. Secondly, start canvasing legislators to install cameras in all classrooms for real time observation by parents. An idea that has arrived.

“Not Guilty.”
Yup, put that woman in front of a jury and watch them tell the school troll board member (wanna bet his/her/its politics?) where to shove it.
Were I to have a school aged child, and be unfortunate enough to have them go to a public school, they’d have a full time digital recorder.

Mom needs to elect trial by judge and jury, and fight the socialist deep state. Then when she is found Not Guilty, she needs to sue the school district for millions. Take their money away, destroy socialist schooling.

Today schools think that the person being bullied should report it, but the problem is that there maybe no proof, and if there is no proof what is there to stop poeple claiming they are bullied when they are not just to get back at another kid.

Why not go back to how it was. Hit the bully back, let boys fight it out if both of them want to so long as it doe snot go too far.

All this crap of being soft today is a joke, and only enables the weirdo, self mutilating, cross dressing, homosexual kids to act as if they are normal, and bullies getting away with what they are doing.
