False alarm... no shots, no injuries, no nothing... except someone posted something on Twitter from 11/14 which seems to have triggered this Twitter alarm.

Happily this looks like a false alarm. I suggest removing it from the breaking news column. Maybe the thread can be locked.
Yes, South Africa has had these sales for a couple of years now. There were even a couple of places that had their store fronts smashed as people tried to get in. I’m not sure how so many people managed to get to the stores because it’s not a normal working day here. I suspect a lot of people called their employers advising they were sick!
I used to make thanksgiving in Europe when I lived there. Finding pumpkin or molasses to make brown sugar with was quite difficult at the time. And the turkeys were nothing like the big ones here. But it worked, and everyone liked the food. It’s very similar to the big chasse (hunting dinners) meals where there are always the same sides on the plate. Rack of venison with spaetzle and strewed fruits and Brussels sprouts and candied chestnuts, etc. Fall food!
Correction - should be “it’s a normal working day here”.
